JACKSON, Miss. (AP) Three elected Mississippi Democrats announced Tuesday they are switching to the Republican Party, a move Republicans described as a victory for the GOP and a rebuke of Democratic Party ideology.
State Sen. Cindy Hyde-Smith, state Rep. Bobby Shows and Simpson County Superintendent of Education Joe Welch announced the changes in their party affiliation during a news conference Tuesday at Mississippi Republican Party headquarters in Jackson.
The party switches don't shift the balance of power in either house of the state Legislature, but GOP officials said it's part of continuing trend in Mississippi and beyond. At least 17 elected Democrats in Mississippi have defected to the GOP in the past two years, Mississippi GOP Chairman Brad White said.

Which would make 2010 a test case..

'Three elected Mississippi Democrats announced Tuesday they are switching to the Republican Party, a move Republicans described as a victory for the GOP and a rebuke of Democratic Party ideology.'Horseshit. They'll be back on the plantation the second it becomes politically expedient to do so. Politicians don't have 'come to Jesus' moments - they're more like ticks looking for another host to feed on.
"But know this, that in the last days perilous times will come: for men will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy, unloving, unforgiving, slanderers, without self-control, brutal, despisers of good, traitors, headstrong, haughty, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God, having a form of godliness but denying its power. And from such people turn away, for his name is Obama."

We won what? 693 state leg. seats in the election? This has got to bring the total well over 710

Three more RINOS I wouldn't be too sure about that. Mississippi is very conservative. We have the last of the true conservative democrats in office.
But, time will tell. Party labels be damned. We need honest, conservative elected officials; period.

I see that it’s possible. Reagan was a democrat at one time.

I suspect we may see more party switching as the year goes by. However, will they be RINO’s or conservatives? Time will tell

We need honest, conservative elected officials; period. right. So did they need to change their party in order to be conservative?

They are from the “wet finger in the wind” Party. They have no guiding values other than staying in the legislature. If the Republicans had any moral values themselves, they’d refuse them entry into the party. The Tea Party should run some real conservatives against these a$$ hats in 2012.
