The owner of a Laurel gas station struggled with, then shot and killed a man who attempted to rob his store early Tuesday, police said.

About 3:30 a.m. Tuesday, police responded to a report of a robbery in the 3400 block of Laurel Fort Meade Road at a Quest gas station that is also the site of a Dunkin' Donuts and a Baskin Robbins ice cream store. The station is located on a busy street lined with shops and strip malls.

Based on a preliminary investigation, police said they believe a man entered the store, implied that he had a weapon and demanded money. After a struggle, the 48-year-old store owner shot the would-be robber in the parking lot, said Justin Mulcahy, a police spokesman.

I wonder if the store owner will be prosecuted. It is Maryland.

These are such good news stories!!!! Another scumbag dead is truly a gift to society. The savings to society are absolutely amazing. The perp probably had a long record which was only 10% or less of all the crimes he committed. Saving the expenses of a trial, appeals, state paid for lawyer, a free cot and a hot for many years, free medical care. Is there a study that shows just how much one dead scumbag saves? A $million,,,probably more?

We need to keep arming all legal citizens so we can eliminate scumbags when necessary. The gestapo police and terroristic courts don’t like this as they want us as their slaves and do the best job in the world protecting and nuturing criminals, but S&W is the mighty equalizer.

Classic example of how the cops are never around when you need them.

Signs of the time, I’m wondering if I should go out and buy a firearm. Not too sure I could carry around my Dad’s old shotgun as it might look bad. I think there are several of my neighbors that have firearms but I would have no Idea as what to get if I do buy one.

I know that area well. It’s now a dump!!! High crime area. The local radio stations are already talking about how this shop owner is going to be in trouble since he shot him in the parking lot, outside the store. Who cares where he shot the guy!! The guy was a criminal thug and now there is one less scumbag in the world to have to deal with.

You should. When things get bad enough that the average person decides it's time, there will be NO guns nor ammo on store shelves (assuming the government hasn't banned sales, as happened during the LA Riots).

There are lots of threads on the subject, a new "what's a good gun for a newbie" thread starts about every other week.

I have a Mossberg 500 shotgun for home protection.

Short barrel so it’s easy to maneuver in tight quarters, the safety is exactly in the natural location, by the thumb so it’s easy to slide. It may not be natural for those who hunt with Remington’s and are used to the safety by the trigger, but I’m a non-hunter and for me it’s perfect.

I got it in silver so I can easily find it at night when it may be hard to quickly locate a darker gun.

I keep a shell in the chamber for that extra fraction of a second that may be needed in an emergency. I just have to slide the safety and I’m in business.

We have a Castle Doctrine. I don’t know if it extends to the workplace.

http://house.state.md.us/2007RS/fnotes/bil_0001/sb0761.pdf

Snip: ‘Other states, like Maryland, have adopted an exception to the duty to retreat known as the
“castle doctrine.” Under the castle doctrine, “a man faced with the danger of an attack
upon his dwelling need not retreat from his home to escape the danger, but instead may stand his ground and, if necessary to repel the attack, may kill the attacker.” See Burch v.
State, 346 Md. 253, 283-4, 696 A.2d 443, 458 (1997) quoting Crawford v. State, 231 Md.
354, 361, 190 A.2d 538, 541 (1963). Courts are split as to whether a duty to retreat exists
under the castle doctrine in situations involving cohabitants, guests, and invitees.’
