Beauty contest for goats begins in Saudi Arabia
Riyadh - A beauty competition for goats began on Wednesday in Saudi Arabia, as part of an auction bringing together traders and herders in the holy Muslim city of Mecca.
Auction supervisor Fawzi al-Subhi said that over 170 animals are competing for the coveted title 'most beautiful goat.' He expects the winner to be sold for at least 18,000 dollars.
According to al-Shams newspaper, the four-legged contestants are purebred Hijazi goats, a distinct breed named after the province in which Mecca is located.
Pastoralists and their flocks still roam the Hijaz region and other parts of the oil-rich Arabian kingdom.
The purpose of the competition is to raise awareness about the breed, said al-Subhi.

Muslims are weird.. BUT we have dog shows and cat shows and horse shows..
Yet ... why are there no beauty contests for women in nations like Saudi? Muslim men seem to see lots of beauty in their livestock, but apparently fail to see any beauty in the other half of humanity.
Just an observation and my reason behind this thread.

Awesome pets - they even come when we call out their names. Unfortunately, they are fragile healthwise but we love them and will gladly suffer the cost. I just saw the citibank viking commercial that take place in New Orleans where the goat sings into the microphone- hubby and I laughed hysterically for 5 minutes.
Yep. I had a similar thought. The Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo is held in March.

Sometimes it’s just so hard to accept that we share a planet with these people.
I have 4: Jack, Casper, Ellie Mae and Gracie.
When I call their names, they continue doing whatever they want.
They are WORSE than cats for aloofness.
A cat will ignore you and act like they haven't heard you; a goat will ignore you and act like you are bothering them at whatever they are doing.
Two brothers and two sisters
Whatever you do, NEVER feed them anything with corn in it. We give ours saltine crackers as snacks and they climb all over our golf cart or Kubota rtv. When they spot us, they run toward us like they are being chased. The little boys, Jake and Elwood, have little horns and look like mini devils. They are so cute!!!!
Yours are so gorgeous! Do you breed them or use them for milk? Ours are just pets. What kind are yours? Did you make your goat house?
