Society Of Professional Journalists Claim 'Illegal Immigrant' Is An 'Offensive' Term Wednesday, December 29, 2010 By Eric Scheiner
The Diversity Committee of the Society of Professional Journalists (SPJ) have announced an educational campaign against the term “illegal immigrant” seeking to inform reporters that the term “illegal immigrant” is “offensive” to Latinos.
In the latest issue of SPJ’s magazine ‘Quill’, SPJ’s Diversity Committee member Leo Laurence writes about the campaign referencing the National Association of Hispanic Journalists’ recommendation to use “undocumented immigrant” or “undocumented worker” and to “Avoid using ‘illegal(s)’ as a noun.”
In the article Laurence also makes a constitutional argument against the term 'illegal immigrant', “One of the most basic of our constitutional rights is that everyone (including non-citizens) is innocent of any crime until proven guilty in a court of law. That’s guaranteed under the Fifth, Sixth and 14th Amendments of the Constitution.”
“Simply put, only a judge, not a journalist, can say that someone is an illegal,” Laurence adds.

The term of choice should be illegal aliens.

An “immigrant” by definition is a legal, permanent resident - green card holder.
This country was settled by “immigrants,” - legally!!
So what! It should be offensive, as much as it is to legal immigrants!
Life is full of offenses, some are for the better and some are for the worse.
Most of us that have been citizens since birth are offended every day.
But you know we have selected offenses, and the media has promoted it!
Personally I find the term “journalist” offensive.
If the U.S. government cannot legally control migration across its southern border, then it has lost sovereignty over its own territory. So on what basis does it “minimize harm” to deny that uncontrolled immigration into the U.S. from Mexico is “illegal” ?
At this point in time, I equate a Professional Journalist with a prostitute because they both will *uck someone for money.
Wetbacks is OK. Eisenhower used the term in Operation Wetback.
They are illegally colonizing our country and stealing our money. Yes, it’s our money not theirs. It takes the form of subsidies, tuitions, welfare payments, medical payments and a burden oour system.
I think “journalist” is an offensive term...because most journalists are offensive.
Australia's president just told all the Muslims in Australia who want to live under Sharia Law to get the fu&% out of Australia. Says that Australia is for Australians, and they shouldn't have to tiptoe around in their own country worrying if they're "offending" any fu&%ing ingrate diaper-headed cavemen.
We need a President Palin to do the same thing here.

How do they know they are “undocumented”? Aren’t these PC morons making that assumption? And if they are “undocumented” doesn’t the law say that it is ILLEGAL for non-citizens to be in the US without your documents.
It is offensive, should be “illegal alien.”
See if you can understand this: People who immigrate illegally are illegal immigrants. Try. You might be able to comprehend that. Try hard: illegal and immigrant. Illegal immigrants. Try really, really hard. It might take time.
