Guilty
>>He was begging to be shot, but Clements was old enough and experienced enough to know better than to oblige him.<<
My take is the exact opposite. I think he just may have been old and experienced enough to possess the will to do what was prudent.
Apparently you live in a nice neighborhood where young thugs don’t roam the sidewalks.
You mean they didn't start punching you in the face?
>>Never have I considered taking a loaded one outside to confront someone whose puppy was peeing on my lawn. Its manifestly ludicrous. <<
I wouldn’t either. But then, maybe you and I have nicer neighbors than he does (or, did).
I often wonder what would happen if a bunch of old coots decided to clean up things on their own. Or maybe I have watched too many Death Wish movies ...
I know of people getting killed for less in West(don’t screw around)Virginia. The “me” generation needs to understand sometimes “me” gets whacked for doing stupid sh!t.
Recently the local cops told a woman’s boyfriend to behave himself and not confront one of the local citizens who had killed, really murdered, the woman’s previous boyfriend.
Anyone who brings a fist to a gunfight, and knows it ahead of time, probably needs removed from the gene pool.
Well, with all due respect you’re confusing the issue of whether it’s physically possible to die from being struck (and in this instance it’s probably the fall that killed him, not the punch), with the legal justification to use deadly force, which was not present when someone has disengaged.
You go ahead and let someone bear the hell out of you just bacause they can if you like.
lol.
apparently this headline and first paragraphs are journalistic malpractice.
As you do get older, you do get really sick of it. It is the words of Jesus in the bible that prevent me from doing it.
And that is ALL that prevents me. As you get older you have “less to lose”. If I were not a Christian man, I would literally be doing the death wish thing and more. Heck, do you know how easy it would be to take out red-light cameras?
But it is really NOT what Christ teaches. OTOH, He did tell them to buy a sword, and my interpretation is that it was for self defense.
“unless youre a trained professional martial artist or boxer bare fists are almost never considered a deadly weapon”
Sorry, kiddo. Try selling that one to someone who hasn’t worked in critical care for twenty-one years.
>>with the legal justification to use deadly force<<
To me this is not about what is “legal”. It is about what is morally right. The two don’t seem to cross paths much these days.
Bernard Goetz comes to mind.
Well, with all due respect, I am not confusing the issue.
...and you are justified in calling this man a ‘thug’ based on what? What exactly would be your reaction if while walking your puppy a man came out, started confronting you (my guess is rather impolitely) and then pulled a loaded gun on you? At that juncture, based on these facts, only one man was in mortal danger - the dog walker - he was confronted with a loaded, deadly weapon. He was justified in fending off the old man with nondeadly force and may even have been justified in using deadly force - it was reasonable for him to protect himself with his fists. When he withdrew, it was manifestly unreasonable for the man to then shoot him to death.
You don't have a clue as to what the law in this case is, do you? Since carrying a sidearm, concealed or not(by a non-LEO) in Chi-Town is illegal, displaying one and then putting it away isn't lawful display of force. It is an illegal deadly threat.
You had cited Florida law in another post to a poster regarding whether this was a lawful shoot. Hence my use of the Chicago isn't in Florida.
So, exactly which law is it that are you trying to tell me to study in order that I might understand that what the Marine did was legal? Please be specific.
Look at the stats I posted about the neighborhood, as well as the pics of the guy trying to be a thug on his Myspace page, and then reassess the judgement on the guy.
