Prayers going up for the hostages--do we have any FReepers in that area? Hope this turns out okay with everyone safe!

Prayers up that this is resolved quickly, and the hostages remain safe.

The hostage takers? Not so much. Small red dot to the forehead is ok with me. God bless hydrostatic pressure waves.

My mom lives about a mile from there off McHard road.
She’s in town at lunch, hopefully this will be done by the time she’s on her way home.

Have you called her to make sure she didn't stop by the bank? I pray not.

Here’s one of those rare cases in which I think a police “raid” would be entirely appropriate. Innocent lives are at stake right now.

She’s not answering her cell, she turns it off in restaurants.

She doesn’t bank there and Hwy 35 is south of her exit.
Really all she has to worry about is a traffic backup on 288.

Back in the 1970’s when I was a teenager there was a bank that was robbed on a regular basis less than a mile from my home. I've had a phobia about entering them ever since and will use drive through if I have to go to one. I just about had a panic attack when I went to get a safety deposit box.

(P.S. Thank God for direct deposit paychecks!)

Amen.

It’s sad to live near a place where you have to carry pepper spray to go shopping. Nothing is safe day or night.

I was shocked walking into the bank here. I had never been in a bank that had safety glass and an armed guard. That’s all it took for me. I never went back.

I don’t even use an ATM machine. I make my husband do it.

No, that hostage situation is going on in Texas although a bank was robbed here this morning. And yesterday. And the day before. I think the day before that.

That’s why I don’t go to any bank.

The bank manager was shot. Life flight was called but waived off and the bank manager was taken to the hospital via ground transportation. Apparently he was not seriously hurt because on the scanner they just said that he is out of the hospital and at the police command center on site. Good news.

My husband does too.

Since he travels a lot to rural places, he feels the need. I’m not confident enough to carry anything but pepper spray.

He is very much like you, he is not afraid.

Hope the hostages all get out of this safe...

That being said, I have *zero* sympathy for the corrupt banksters in today's America.

The day I got my permit in the mail I was on my way to the bank, so I carried “legally” for the first time. As I walked up to the bank and armed guard opened the door from the inside and greeted me as I went in.

NY Carry permits change here from county to county...as there is 1 state law that covers all counties, my CCW is full carry in counties other than my own...but not mine.

in my county I would not be arrested for illegal carry if I was cought carrying concealed to places other than the range, or hunting, or stopping off at my bank/ diner/ 7-11/etc on the way to the range or hunting....but they cram all these rules onto it the CCW to make you think twice about carrying and if you are cought carrying not on the way to said locations, you can lose your permit to carry.

and like I said, if I am upstate out of my county by my hunting land, no such rules apply...and I carry all the time without hesitation.

all things considered I would rather live in Texas.

From experience I say best to wait them out. Keep them calm so no one else gets hurt. That is the desired end result. Going in guns a blazing is a bad idea. It causes the perpetrators to react against the hostages.

I have a concealed permit in my county which allows me to carry everywhere EXCEPT NYC. Go figure. NYC is exempt from the rest of the state when it comes to concealed carry laws. It has it’s own. Might as well separate the City from the rest of the state.

yeah same here.....NYC will give you a carry permit if your are an elitist....a movie star, million/billionare, rock star, sports figure etc...

I am treated like scum and I am suppose to lock up my licensed handgun when traveling from Long Island to my hunting land upstate at least while traveling through NYC.

a load of bovine scat.

You might be right. But if that’s the right approach when gunmen have hostages, it’s hard to imagine how going in with guns blazing could possibly be the right strategy for someone’s home, when there is suspected to be a bag of white powder inside, but no innocent lives are at risk.

I’m always nervous every 2 weeks when I get my nails done. A shop full of mostly women who have cash and credit cards and are wearing (in some cases) expensive jewelry.

Escape out the back door from most of these places would be almost impossible.

Nail salons would be a very easy hit.
