Cold case detectives say a man who died seven years ago while awaiting execution at San Quentin for murdering a 10-year-old girl is tied to the strangulation of a 29-year-old developmentally disabled woman.
FOLLOWING IS MY QUICK SUMMARY OF THE ARTICLE:
Robert Edward Stansbury was an ice cream truck driver whose route took him through most of the San Gabriel Valley and unincorporated East L.A.
He was convicted of abductions and sexual assaults dating as far back as 1959, but was always let out of prison for one stupid reason or another. He was on parole when he killed Barbara Hall in 1974.
In 1982, he lured a 10-yr-old girl into his truck, then raped and beat her before stuffing her into his ice cream cooler. She died the next day after he dumped her into a Pasadena flood control channel.
He was convicted of that horrible crime in 1985 and sentenced to death, but spent years avoiding execution due to appeals, arguing that his Miranda rights were violated. He died a natural death in San Quentin at the age of 60 on Dec. 12, 2003.

He was a big man, over 6 feet, and described as burly, with a bushy beard, one leg and tattoos. Imagine what kids as young as 10 went through when this monster grabbed them.

But this is CA.
DNA is only for freeing people who are wrongly on “death row”.
Somehow it’s conversely never sufficient for executing people within 5 years of being on “death row”.
The government just doesn’t seem to realize how failing to provide justice makes citizens inclined to provide their own justice.

So true. It also makes average folks more and more distrustful of our so-called justice system, and more likely to ignore laws on the margin whenever possible.

The death penalty should be eliminated. 25 years awaiting execution? Good God. Considering the ludicrous appeals process, what is the point of the death penalty anyway? It ends up being life in prison, so why not skip the appelate court costs and sentence them to life without parole?
In Texas, we have it down to under 10 years now. Life without parole can be too easily ended by a bleeding heart governor, and it does not allow for disposal of people so evil that we don’t want them to even have the possibility of escape.
Since he's already dead, there will be no conviction. Eighteen years he sat on death row and wasn't ever executed. Death by natural causes.
In CA we have persons still on "death row" who have been there since Carter was president.

Because then they and the ACLU will turn to fighting cruel and unusual life without parole sentences and return to being out in five to seven years like this scumbag routinely was.
With a death sentence they can’t be paroled. Your argument is the new chic anti-death penalty screed from all the libs I know.

Absolutely not, regardless of the red tape. Instead of throwing in the towel, there needs to be a push for a more efficient and quick sentencing. Sentencing a person such as him to life in prison is much too cushy.
Something kept him from being identified even as a dangerous crazy person, let alone a murderer.
True. Even though he was in and out of prison since 1959 (!), the system failed monumentally in his case. It was 23 years, and several jurisdictions, between that first arrest in Oklahoma and when he murdered little Robyn in California. By 1982, when he killed the child, he should never have been out on the streets. He was a murderous psychopath and child rapist, but he knew how to work our so-called judicial system to get out on parole as often as possible.
I agree with you. Quick, efficient trials, sentencing, and executions.
