BTW, the new bulbs are 5 or 6 times the cost, they are very short living ... and are super toxic when tossed in the trash.

Halogen bulbs aren't toxic, as far as I know. (But they are easily more expensive--I haven't priced one recently, but I used to sell them* for $5 each in the late 1980's).

When the corkscrew bulbs burn out they tend to melt near the base. I’ve seen some that started to turn brown. Anyone else noticed this? It looks like a fire hazard.

And the (Quartz) Halogen lamps run super hot. More potential for fire.

I assume that you're aware of the chemicals that have been used for over 100 years on trillions of "harmless" incandescent and fluorescent bulbs?

Mark Steyn was in for Rush on Thurs and read the Maine EPA instructions for what to do if you break one of those stupid bulbs, it’s insane! I had a few, I accidentally broke one, I have removed the remaining bulbs and put back the incandescents, and am stocking up on the good old ones. One other salt in the wound, the good bulbs - made here- the toxic mercury filled pieces of crap- made in china. Government steps in it again.
