First Birds Fall, Now 100,000 Fish Dead in Arkansas
AOL News ^ | January 3, 2010 | Mara Gay

Thousands of dead fish have turned up in an Arkansas river just days after 3,000 birds mysteriously dropped dead from the sky, but authorities say the deaths are not related.

An estimated 100,000 dead drum fish are floating along a 20-mile stretch of the Arkansas River and washing up on the river's banks near the town of Ozark in the northwestern part of the state.

The dead fish were discovered just after 3,000 red-wing blackbirds fell from the sky in the town of Beebe, more than 100 miles from the site of the dead fish.

Officials, who tripled the early estimates of the number of dead birds, said the bird deaths may have been caused by lightning or by stress from fireworks and said they were unrelated to the fish kill.

Fish kills happen every year, but kills of this size are relatively rare. Hundreds more drum fish are sick and have been sent to the University of Arkansas for testing.

Andrew Goodwin, the associate director of the University of Arkansas' Aquaculture and Fisheries Center, said he didn't believe the deaths were caused by pollutants. "It's unlikely to be a toxin," Goodwin told AOL News by phone today.

Instead, Goodwin said he suspected that the drum fish may have experienced a population boom this summer that created more competition for food and sapped the weaker ones of their ability to fight off disease.

"It's your classic boom and bust," he said. "A group of fish will go into a population boom, and then they're competing for food, so they may not be in really good condition. Then during a cold snap the environment changes with the temperature, and their immune systems are compromised and can't always fight infection."

My guess is that it was geophysical condition affecting the migrating birds.

Another thing that seems weird to me is that they were all Red-Winged Blackbirds. Male and female. I didn't see any other species in the news reports. Were there others?

Looking at a map (via mapquest), the incidents really weren’t that far apart if looking over the whole state, nor are they that far from the original epicenter of the New Madrid. Yeah, I probably have my Guessing Hat on too tight.

There was an earthquake in and around Damascus, Guy, and North Little Rock yesterday.

Found the below comment on another site and the pdf (85 Pages with photos) is very interesting. Any Freepers knowledgeable on this subject matter should investigate...

“Can YOU afford to drink fracking fluid? “Arkansas Fisk Kill” was 2.5 miles from “Injection Well.”

From the below linked report:

In some states, the term “landfarm” has been used to describe those facilities that accept water-based fluids or muds from companies that drill wells for the extraction of natural gas or oil. The Environmental Preservation and Technical Services Division of the Arkansas Department of Environmental Quality (ADEQ), with the assistance of the ADEQ Water Division, was tasked with assessing the impacts of such landfarms in the state. The study included the 11 facilities that were, or had recently been in operation.

Four are in Sebastian County, two each in Franklin and White Counties, and one each in Conway, Johnson, Lonoke and Yell Counties.

The landfarms all have some combination of the following elements: storage ponds, storage tanks, application fields, monitoring wells, and natural water bodies. Samples were taken, where possible, in each of these available elements following the “Drilling Fluid Disposal Site Sampling” protocol below. All laboratory analyses were conducted at the ADEQ laboratory. During site visits, staff from the Environmental Preservation Section were always accompanied by an ADEQ water inspector familiar with the facility.

Summary Of Findings:
Eleven facilities authorized for a no-discharge permit were evaluated between November 25, 2008 and January 20, 2009. The permits are for storage and land application of drilling fluids generated by natural gas drilling activities. When conditions allowed, offsite streams were sampled above and below the landfarms. Conductivity, measured in the field, and samples analyzed in the lab (chlorides, total dissolved solids, etc.) indicate fluids are discharged to waters of the state by all eleven facilities. Many downstream sample concentrations of these constituents exhibited an increase over upstream samples by at least an order of magnitude, and clearly exceeded Arkansas Pollution Control and Ecology Commission’s Regulation No. 2 stream values.

They are probably not related. Bird kills of that sort are not uncommon, according to some farmers who posted. Several different possible causes. Coincidences to happen.

One species of birds and one species of fish ~ and all of them suffering from blunt force trauma.

Most irregular.

I suspect this was the MILE WIDE FLYING SAUCER earlier seen in Texas just shortly before the optical illusion off the coast of LA.

Think of it this way ~ space aliens with a massive craft use a variety of deceptive imagery to hide it from our sight, or make it invisible.

The flaw is that if it's invisible to migrating birds they'll run into it. The fish are probably triggered by an otherwise undetectible sonic whine from the spindizzy generators. James Blish would know and get all excited about this but he's been gone from this mortal coil for 35.5 years (almost to the day).
