CA: Brown Blows Off Labor

Public-employee unions spent tens of millions getting Jerry Brown elected, but the new governor gave them the cold shoulder yesterday after his inauguration.

The Chron reports that the 18,000-member Orange County Employees Association had expected Brown to speak at its free hot-dog fest at the capitol, dubbed “The People’s Inauguration Party,” but the new governor only showed up for a few moments, grabbed some dogs, and scurried off.

During his inaugural speech, Brown told unions not to expect any favors and referred to a “philosophy of loyalty” that calls for a “devotion to California above and beyond our narrow perspectives.”

Jerry Brown's cameos at union fetes may be signal

Tuesday, January 4, 2011

Sacramento - --

Perhaps never in California history has the political symbolism of a hot-dog feed been so closely analyzed.

Two hours after Gov. Jerry Brown was inaugurated Monday, hot dogs became another chapter in his relationship with public employee unions whose support was instrumental to his return to the governor's office - and whose cooperation will be critical to his success dealing with California's $28 billion budget deficit.

The 18,000-member Orange County Employees Association, the county's largest union, threw a free hot-dog party on the Capitol grounds after Brown's swearing-in. Organizers expected Brown to speak briefly at what they dubbed the "People's Inauguration Party."

But Brown and his wife, Anne Gust Brown, bypassed the microphone set up inside the massive tent and instead grabbed dogs and greeted a few of the dozens of people

Within minutes, the Browns left. There was no speech.

While event organizers tried to put a positive spin on it, some of the people waiting for Brown to speak booed, thinking he blew off the speech to make a point.

"I think it's bull-," said Steve Trombetta, a high school teacher from Grass Valley who waited two hours to hear Brown speak. "

that calls for a “devotion to California above and beyond our narrow perspectives.”

Good luck with that.

"People's Inauguration Party." ??

What a joke.

These government union employees could care less about private sector Americans and only care about their lucrative salaries and lottery style government pensions.

I’m more interested to see how long Brown lasts before dropping to his hands and knees and puckering up.

As popular as public unions are lately I don't think its realistic to draw any conclusions from Brown's refusal to go straight from his inauguration to a union rally.

When push comes to shove he'll be there for them - he always has been.

"People's Inauguration Party." ??

Sounds like something from Pravda and the old Soviet Union.

Getting the unions “care” about the state will be like trying to turn around an aircraft carrier with a canoe.

What would you expect from a corrupt government employee union?

Getting the unions “care” about the state

We want to *eliminate* government unions. Them "caring" is irrelevant.

Precisely. He’s just playing it up now because of the anti-public-union sentiment in California. I’m sure once he got to a secure phone, he was calling union bosses and telling them to tell their members not to worry, he’ll be there for them when the time comes.

Nor will the Democratic legislature do anything either. Brown hasn’t the foggiest idea what he’s going to do - he hasn’t got the Ronald Reagan billions in surplus he inherited the last time and then promptly squandered.

>>t the 18,000-member Orange County Employees Association had expected Brown to speak at its free hot-dog fest<<

Well, brown has been blowing the hot dogs of Big Labor, especially SEIU, for 30 years.

He won’t let those hot dogs lie fallow and limp for long.

More of the same liberal insanity and corruption that has buried Taxifornia. It is just a matter of time. None of this had to happen. But the parasite liberal voters made the choice to destory Taxifornia....

“When push comes to shove he’ll be there for them - he always has been.”

I largely agree. Brown has constraints that will tie his hands somewhat. He will find ways to support his allies whenever possible.

“devotion to California above and beyond our narrow perspectives.”

Earth to Moonbeam — that is exactly what the public employee unions do NOT have.
