It's official, Tampa Bay: December 2010 was the coldest December in recorded history.
Overall, the average daily temperature, the high and the low divided by two, was about 10 degrees below the norm for the month.
Tampa set a new record low at 53.2 degrees, besting the previous record of 54.5 degrees in 1935. It was even colder than January 2010's record-breaking cold snap.
St. Petersburg's 56.3 degrees beat a record of 56.9, also from 1935.
In Hernando County, Brooksville set a record at 52 degrees. The previous low was 54.1 in 1935.
St. Leo, in Pasco County, also set a record at 51.6 degrees, breaking the previous low of 52.1 in 1935.
Several areas throughout west-central and southwest Florida also set record lows.
Meteorologists say a complex weather system known as the Arctic Oscillation is largely responsible for the cold weather.
The Arctic Oscillation set up a large high-pressure system in the Atlantic Ocean. This high-pressure system blocks cold air from moving east and instead forces it south, meaning much colder weather for much of the Southeast United States.
Although the area is in a La Niña period, typically making for a milder winter, the effects of the Arctic Oscillation are strong enough to drive weather patterns.
Long-range forecasts show temperatures staying below average through January, according to the National Weather Service's Climate Prediction Center
Crops frozen, vegetable prices up 300% and more, tropical fish producers wiped out by the cold, manatees dying from the cold, electric bills sky high.
That darn global warming.
Dam this cold weather, I actually had to put long pants on this year.
Just think how cold it would have been without global warming!
What we are seeing here is the result of man made climate change.
Cold all over Vegas had one of the Coldest New Years Eve’s ever, so they will just go back to preaching the ice age like they did in the 1970’s but of course the claim will be the same man global warming no matter how much they are proven wrong.

You wouldn’t bet on that! Las Vegas endures coldest ever New Year’s Eve
It was awful.
In Lakeland, the average temperature of 53.2 broke the record of 54.8, also from 1935.
It has been collllld as all get out here these past three weeks. On the bright side, played golf in upper 70 temps on Friday and Sunday!
There's a SciFi novel, "Fallen Angels", that has as part of the plot line that we were overdue for an Ice Age, and Global Warming was the only thing holding it off -- until the Enviro-weenies cut down on carbon emissions...
Went to the viewing center at Apollo Beach by the power plant. The manatees were packed in tight!
I was born and raised in Tampa, I am telling those temps may not look that cold to many northerners but a wet cold in Florida is cold.
We normally expect a freeze between Christmas and New Year.
This year the first freeze was during the first week of December.
If we are truly entering an era of global cooling, forget about saying Al Gore is a dummy, because we already knew that.
Be more concerned about your survival.
Must be global warming causing it.
Scientist Robert W. Felix, author of Not by Fire but by Ice, has long argued that the data in favour of coming mini ice age is more credible.
There are some other scientists that find the mini ice age theory more credible than global warming (and certainly, nonexistent anthropogenic one), among them the Brit Piers Corbyn:
From There's a mini ice age coming, says man who beats weather experts - The Daily Telegraph via The Sydney Morning Herald, 2010 December 21
Back in November, when the Met Office was still doing its "mild winter" schtick, Corbyn said it would be the coldest for 100 years. Indeed, it was back in May that he first predicted a snowy December, and he put his own money on a white Christmas about a month before the Met Office made any such forecast. He said that the Met Office would be wrong about last year's mythical "barbecue summer", and he was vindicated. He was closer to the truth about last winter, too. He seems to get it right about 85 per cent of the time and serious business people - notably in farming - are starting to invest in his forecasts. In the eyes of many punters, he puts the taxpayer-funded Met Office to shame. How on earth does he do it? He studies the Sun. He looks at the flow of particles from the Sun, and how they interact with the upper atmosphere, especially air currents such as the jet stream, and he looks at how the Moon and other factors influence those streaming particles. He takes a snapshot of what the Sun is doing at any given moment, and then he looks back at the record to see when it last did something similar. Then he checks what the weather was like on Earth at the time - and he makes a prophecy. I have not a clue whether his methods are sound or not. But when so many of his forecasts seem to come true, and when he seems to be so consistently ahead of the Met Office, I feel I want to know more. Piers Corbyn believes that the last three winters could be the harbinger of a mini ice age that could be upon us by 2035, and that it could start to be colder than at any time in the last 200 years. ..... < snip > < snip > ..... Allow me to introduce readers to Piers Corbyn, meteorologist and brother of my old chum, bearded leftie MP Jeremy. Piers Corbyn works in an undistinguished office in Borough High Street. He has no telescope or supercomputer. Armed only with a laptop, huge quantities of publicly available data and a first-class degree in astrophysics, he gets it right again and again.
And then, of course, within that, there is the pesky 22 year solar duplex (11+11) sunspot cycle, aka Hale Cycle.
We could become a tropical paradise. No problem with me.
There were the Hohokam people, in Arizona, that died out a few thousand years ago. They died out with climate change. They had pretty sophisticated, irrigated farming. But then, the rains went away.
Stuff happens. And Al Gore had no say in it.
If the rains come back, what's the problem?
If it comes back here, it might disappear somewhere else. Maybe the rain forests of Kauai turn into the mountain deserts of Arizona, and Arizona gets the rain forests. It happens.
Iceland and Greenland are prime examples of climate change, well before heavy (by some standards) exploration and use of hydrocarbons and polymers by humans.
So, the pseudo-"environmentalists" (Al Gore kind) are all wet on "man-made" reasons for GW or GC or flavour-of-the-day CC "explanation" of the kind "it's cold because of the global warming".
I might be looking forward to that new Ice Age. ... We could become a tropical paradise. No problem with me.
However, be careful what you wish for and don't get too comfortable with the idea of global cooling / mini ice age, just because it might be perceived as "better" for Arizona or Mojave desert. In general, the [unusually] cold weather wreaks more havoc for humans, leading to more deaths, illnesses and disruptions in important food and foodstuff supply than [unusually] warm weather.
Stuff happens. And Al Gore had no say in it.
Stuff does happen, but unfortunately Al Gore had plenty to say about that, most of it wrong and deliberately distorted. Would be great if politicians didn't resort to misusing and corrupting science (and scientists) in their nefarious get-rich-schemes by government fiat... but most of them don't go into "public service" out of philanthropy or goodness of their hearts anymore, do they? That's something that, like climate, also "changed" in the last couple of hundred years, but unlike climate, it's entirely man-made.
["public servise" is a subtle reference to Twilight Zone episode To Serve Man]
Can we please start a “SUPPORT GLOBAL WARMING” campaign?
We need to turn off those furnaces immediately and rescue ourselves from the global warming!
