Sanitation workers spotted asleep on the job, apparently hanging out at a Coney Island Dunkin Donuts for 11 straight hours and some drinking beer for six or seven hours instead of working are all being probed.

“If they find people that did criminal acts they’re going to arrest them,” Department of Sanitation Commissioner John Doherty said.

Sources tell Kramer that one of the most amazing charges being investigated concerns the reported refusal of some sanitation supervisors to give assignments to crews of Department of Transportation plows that were sent to sanitation districts to plow residential and secondary streets in the outer boroughs, leaving them impassable.

Regardless of the findings of the Brooklyn US Attorney, Dept. of Investigations and Queens and Brooklyn DA the Union people responsible will get a warning, not to get caught next time.

I don’t know what they get paid now, but back in the day they got 35 to 50 an hour depending on union seniority. At these rates, I could eat donuts and drink coffee for days and not worry about boredom.

oh man, do I ever have some stories. I was supervisor in a shop full of them years ago. Most of my guys were honest workers who were union members because they had to be in order to get a job, the other 10% were union loyalists who spent most of their time trying to figure out ways to not get anything done.

I'll tell you, I had my fun stirring them up. I liked to ride right on the edge of questionable. I remember one guy who liked to go in the crapper, shut the door and go to sleep; that is, until I got me one of those handy dandy compressed air party horns one day. Since I couldn't "prove it" that he was sleeping, I just made sure he wasn't able to. hehe. I think that guy was taking sedatives by the time I got done with him. He was real jumpy all the time for some reason.

Unfortunately, I spent more time in hearings and arbitration than I did getting my job done. Eventually, the PM told me to cut it out and I had to back off. They sure are fun to get riled up and they deserved everything they get though.

In the end, they guys who worked for a living loved me. The union hacks mostly wanted me dead. God those were fun times.
