The son of the deposed Shah of Iran and an heir to the ancient throne of Persia committed suicide early yesterday in his South End brownstone despondent over the misfortunes his country and his family have suffered, a statement from his family said.
A gracious and unassuming man, Prince Ali Reza Pahlavi, 44, lived on West Newton Street for at least four years, where neighbors whispered about his royal lineage and expensive cars and clothes. Pahlavis family released a statement mourning his death and calling it a suicide. The district attorneys office said Pahlavi died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

“he should have tried living in the Caribbean rather than Boston”. Agreed, winter in Boston is notorious for Seasonal Affective Disorder, lack of vite D and widespread malaise. The Caribbean would have been a much happier place to settle.
It takes courage to live these days
My son met this fellow when he came to Dallas, years ago. Said he was a nice, quiet young man. I think Ali Reza was taking pilot training in the area.
While with him and other Iranian friends, they visited an oriental rug store owned by one of the friend’s fathers. When they entered the store, the various employees took a look at Ali Reza and immediately all of them knelt down at once.
Rather memorable for my son. Very sad end for Ali Reza.
