40,000 crabs join slew of animal-death mysteries
The Toronto Star ^ | 01/06/2011 | Jenni Dunning

Posted on 01/06/2011 1:13:26 AM PST by speciallybland

First, it was birds falling from the sky, then thousands of dead fish washing up on shore.

Now, more than 40,000 Velvet swimming crabs have wound up dead on England beaches. The possible reason? Hypothermia.

The Thanet shoreline is littered with the crabs, along with dead starfish, lobsters, sponges and anemones.

The crabs benefit from warm seas, but when winter hits and snow covers the beaches, they just can’t handle the freezing temperatures, Tony Child, Thanet Coast Project manager, told the Star.

“It is a horrendous crash in the population,” he said, adding similar crab deaths happened in the same place two years and five years ago.

"The possible reason? Hypothermia."

Interesting. That was my hypothesis also. Low temps kill a lot more than high. In previous warmings (with historically recorded higher temps than now), crop yields were greater, humanity blossomed. With the onset of cold, things collapsed. I suspect the "Little Ice Age" saw quite a few of these "mass kills".

I wonder what the old monastery records might say about such.

I believe you are confusing the gulf loop current with the atlantic gulf stream current. The gulf loop current is quite small and insignificant when it enters the atlantic ocean -like a fraction of a percent of the gulf stream current. The gulf loop current is no warmer than the gulf stream current. Ocean currents fluctuate with the climate. Both currents are cooler and weaker right now because the climate is cooler. Although they affect large areas as you pointed out, they are like el nino in that they are secondary effects of overall climate.

South America had a very cold, record breaking winter last year and is not affected by the gulf currents. Similarly, the gulf currents are not the cause of the Northern hemisphere’s cold winter. They just aren’t helping to moderate it as much as they do in warmer years because they’re also cooler.

The main reason for all these bird and fish deaths is that their hearts stopped beating...

Right at the beginning of their final push for “revolution”. However, their deaths won't be much of a mystery....small holes where lead was inserted at hi velocity should be the first clue.....

I hope we are having a mass animal death reporting mania. In case after case the conclusion is the same; Nothing unusual, happens all the time, etc. But all of a sudden we have this hysteria sweeping the world and suddenly there are stories everywhere on the subject.

Al Gore’s fault

Yes! But not for global warming, but his invention of the internet.

Not unusual events, just linked up and hyped via the 'net.

"Too bad that none of the cadavers displayed even only traces of crude oil. So much for your conspiracy theory."

Actually it helps my theory if there is no crude oil on them or in them. The higher ups won't be able to blame BP.

"Considering that they're mysteriously able to come up with a "body count" on short notice, especially such a large count, does raise suspicions. I mean, who's going to go out and count 40,000 dead crabs?"

Why not 39,798?

If they had said 7 trucks loads of dead crabs, or 400lbs were removed, I'd be more apt to believe that this was a natural occurrence.

Now, more than 40,000 Velvet swimming crabs have wound up dead...

Meanwhile in a nearby brothel there was a big collective sigh of relief.

Some here are speculating that the dead animals are coming from a Factory but I think that’s a Fantasy.
