Same here in San Francisco, in Chinatown there are ducks, geese, chicken, and the occasional pig - they are great advertisements.

Well, I’m not averse to aging & hanging meat - we used to hang deer in the basement for a little to drain blood & such before it was skinned, but outside what stops maggot infestation on skinned meat?

Well bill....we don't have flies here in OK...much in the winter.
But that said, I generally don't like to hang deer...in a greater than 40 degree daytime weather...but if it's lower than that...I will hang meat for 3-4 days...if I can.
Can't always do that...because OK weather is 60 degrees today...30 tomorrow. But I've never worried about maggots....just spoiling.

It’ just the neighbor that’s the problem. I live in St.Louis city and have hung up my deer several times and butchered them in the back yard and there has been no complants.

I don’t know if they still do it, but when I walked through Boston’s North End in the ‘70’s there were rabbit carcasses, both skinned and skin-on, hanging outside stores and restaurants.

The practice of curing meat has been around a lot longer than those panty-waist pinkies have.
Still, if squirrels and other critters are getting to it, and if wandering dogs are chewing on it, then it sounds like they're doing it wrong. It might be that the Turkish family are used to curing meat in a different climate, and could use a few tips on building an indoor curing chamber?

Poor little poochie threw up after eating raw meat? No wonder! It was too used to eating nice little nuggets When I lived in Alaska, we got a Huskie/German Shephard mix. He used to dig up things in the woods, long dead, and eat them with no problems. He would also fish salmon out of the stream, competing with the brown bears for the best spots on the bank.

did they explain the significance of the Lion? Yes they did ... Since then, I've studied Alexander's history and ... I'll look the lion element up and reply later.
