With more snow approaching, New York mayor vows preparedness
Thu Jan 6, 2011 5:50pm EST

NEW YORK (Reuters) - With New York City facing another likely snowstorm this weekend, Mayor Michael Bloomberg vowed on Thursday that improvements have been made to avoid the mishandled mess that was made of last week's massive storm.

Bloomberg, who has been widely criticized for the many streets that went unplowed and the transportation systems that ground to a halt, said the city is better prepared for snow.

An accumulation of roughly six inches is expected in the New York region on Friday.

The city is adding GPS trackers to determine where sanitation trucks are during snow cleanup and adding personnel in the field to monitor cleanup progress, the mayor said.

"While I realize there were problems with the city's snow cleaning efforts last week, I want to assure all New Yorkers we are doing everything in our power to make sure we don't experience those problems again," Bloomberg said at a City Hall news conference.

5 inches of fluffy stuff has started falling here in CT ... and I am joining in the decision to barricade myself inside for the next 18 hours. Til the danger passes.

Spaghetti and soup is on the menu.

P.S. In CT, there are 9 special elections around 3/1 and 5 of them are close to me ... so I am in full campaign mode.

yep. I am taking a major role in 1 campaign and a minor role in another. Two Senate races.

The other 7, I will just make commentary. It actually could turn out to be a teaparty uprising considering that all 9 districts are now held by left-wingers, and we could win half of them with Reagan conservatives.

Last week it it was above freezing long enough for everything to melt. (got into the mid 50’s here on New’s Year’s Eve” then plumetted overnight)

It was nice while it lasted, it snowed again on Friday. It may be March before I again gaze upon dead grass.

that dead grass is only brown, not really dead. Spring is right around the corner. I ain’t really in the mood for winter canvassing. No, not at all. I ain’t going out there by myself or even with a crowd, even if it is the most effective way to reach voters, especially the 90% who no longer answer their phone cuz they know it is political guys callin’ ‘em agin ... staying inside to fill out tax forms is an excellent excuse to avoid winter politics and I have fundraiser at the VFW on FRI. At least laundry is an inside activity. It snowed again last night 2 inch and more on the way for TUES. Windy City weather has gone out east. Here. Cannot believe the JETS actually pulled that game out.

Yeah we all know how Rex Ryan celebrated the win. ;p

The Jets can thank the Colt’s coach Jim Caldwell for calling that time out and allowing NY to get a play set up. The Jets kicker barley made that field goal, he wasn’t gonna make it from 50. Caldwell’s explanation made no sense.

Honesty take that and add it to him pulling Peyton Manning last year (which let the Jets win) when they had a chance to go 16-0 and I think I’ve seen enough think to the guy should be fired. He’s like the Bear’s Lovie Smith but even more laid back and idiotic! If I were Manning I’d consider pulling a LeBron. “Best ever” Manning is starting to get heat for his lousy 9-10 record in the playoffs. If not for human turnover machine Hex Grossman (Mike Shanahan is on crack if he brings him back next season) he’d be in Dan Marino territory.

The Jets had help. Call it, Divine Intervention.
Or you could say God has a sense of humor -- and a loooong memory.
(like, He ISN'T a Colts fan 'now')

And the Colts beat Da Bears in the Super Bowel for two reasons.

  1. That STOO-PID 'cover 2' (aka: cover nobody) that Ron Rivera was calling, and...
  2. An IDIOT was calling the Offensive plays for Da Bears. Which was ..uh.. oh yeah.. Lovie Smith.
(Hmmm? It's raining cats and dogs? I got it!... Lets call A Lot of Pass Plays!)
Plus there's some things that God just doesn't want to get involved with. Even if He doesn't like 'someone'. After all, He's got all the time He wants.

an aside: Even going back to the 85 Bears, I was concerned going into the playoffs. But things fell Da Bears way - in Both Conferences. If other teams would have won. They *might not* have won the NFC or then faced the hapless NE Pats in the Super Bowl. (George Halas helped from above that year)

Yeah, I don’t like the Tampa 2.

Rivera’s D didn’t work great once Mike Brown got hurt.

(Rivera is gonna be the coach in Carolina now!)

Wow- Imagine that. They finally learned they get snow in NY!

also- if you live in NY and are expecting a severe storm, get off the streets BEFORE it gets there.

You morons live there too and you know what that’s like.

SexyRexy REALLY needs to put a sock in his big mouth...last time I checked, what has he won? Nothing. He coasts off daddy's reputation...go rub a foot, you freak. DA PATS are going to whip ‘em worse than the 45-3 Hiroshima they laid on them last month.

Tom Moore should have been named HC of the Colts; Caldwell is shaky at best. That being said, Manning has a losing record (9-10) as a starter in the playoffs. The only reason the Colts won the 1 title w/Manning they did is because they beat a quarterback-less team (Bears) and the Colts team president had the PI rules changed because they couldn't beat the Patriots.

The Colts are the poster child for Affirmative Action in sports: Have the rules changed when you can't win.

I'll enjoy watching the Lombardi Trophy go to another QB not named “Peyton Manning”.

Under Rex, the Jets have won 3 road playoff games in 2 seasons. With a rookie QB last year. The Jets are gonna be around for awhile.

ps-I'm a Giants fan.

Let's see about the Jets. I predict the big mouth wears the team out, along with his welcome. They aren't doing squat as long as Belichick&Brady are in the AFC.

Too bad the Giants collapsed down the stretch; it would have been nice to see a Patriots-Giants SB rematch.

IMO Rex Ryan stinks as a Head Coach and he ain't too bright either. The dummy actually tried using the 46 Defense against Da Bears. And when they did, on the first play Da Bears RB Matt Forte went through it for a 26yd run (pretty sure it was 26yds?).

And as to his daddy Buddy. The only thing that made him a 'genius' and made his reputation was the PLAYERS he had.

With Dan Hampton, Steve McMichael & Richard Dent on the D Line. Wilber Marshall, Mike Singletary & Otis Wilson at LB. And Gary Fencik at Safety, and with a CB like Leslie Frazier, I, or almost anyone, could have 'coached' that Defense. It's just a shame the '46' in the 46, Doug Plank had to retire earlier ('82) because of spinal trauma. (Dave Duerson 'replaced' him.)

And like sonny Rex, daddy Buddy wasn't too bright either. He *advised* two Bears D-Starters to Hold-Out after the '84 season, which they did and missed playing in the Super Bowl. They both came back to Da Bears in 1986 for the same money (thanks for nothing Buddy).

And Buddy's 'coaching brilliance' shined (/s) when he scooted off to Philly in '86 to be their Head Coach -- and the Eagles went downhill from there. Again proving that it was the Bear Players who made Buddy 'great', not Buddy making the players 'great'.

On the Colts, I say Humbug. I don't 'hate' the players, I loathe the owner. So they can kiss my patoot.

And Manning? I'd like to see him play in an OUTDOOR home stadium in Nov and Dec, and on REAL GRASS. I doubt he'd be 'so great'. And he'll mostly always choke in the Big Game - he'll never shake that. Now he is better than most, but that's most out of 32 starting OBs. A Johnny Unitas or Bart Starr he'll never be. And I hate to say it but he'll never even be a John Elway. I'm not an Elway fan, but at least he played in bad weather and won.

Gotta run. Later guys :-)

WHOA!!!!!!!!!! I just burnt my hands because my keyboard is still sizzling from your brilliant analysis!!!!!!!!!!!!

Let's see how bright Footman is this weekend. I'd love to see the Patriots go for 2 point conversions after every TD.

Great points about Buddy Ryan - he did squat as a HC. And when he was a DC he has some of the best players to ever play at his disposal - that's severely overlooked, thanks for the remind.

RE: The Indy Colts. P. Manning is a HOF’er, I don't dispute it. But you're right, put him in say, Memorial Stadium and let's see how he does. I know this: He did sh*t in the playoffs before Polian got the PI rules changed, espcially against the Patriots who happen to play outdoors and in the elements.

Johnny U. is the greatest QB in Colts history, period.

Also, Peyton (and Tiger Woods) always has a super-constipated, gonna cry like a 2 year old, uber-ahole look on his face when he loses. Funny, I don't recall Joe Montana, Johnny U., Arnold Palmer or Jack Nicklaus looking like that when they lost.

Very nice post, Condor51!

When the Colts scored in OT to win the championship game in 1958 Johnny U nonchalantly turned and walked off the field without celebrating. I don’t know why but I think that was awesome.

“I don’t know why but I think that was awesome.”

Because you're impressed by coolness and class. I am too.

I'm sure you've heard the Joe Montana/Comeback against the Bengals/”There's John Candy” story - another example. Grace under pressure and coolness after the victory.

Other QB’s would be seizuring about when preparing for the ball to be snapped along with having a “I'm getting anally raped with a spiked c*ck” look on their face, #18 being THE prime example.

Have you seen this? Hilarious.

Belichick=Vader
Lard Ass=Han Solo
Pretty Feet=Leia
Sanchez=Luke
Joe Namath=Yoda
D. Revis=Obi Wan? Sam Jackson?
Jets Center Nick Mangold=An Ewok (LOL)
Random Patriots=Stormtroopers
Tom Brady=Himself?

I thought the force was with the Jets against the Colts.

Most people think they’ll play the role of Alderaan on Sunday.

Well, when you figure that Palpatine mercilessly ruled the universe for ~30 years, it's cool.

The Patriots can't win by enough as far as I'm concerned. For an organization that hasn't won anything in 40+ years, the Jets yap a bit too much. I Tweeted Rob Gronkowski the other day and asked him to ask Belichick to skip the PATs and go for 2 pointers after ever TD.

That NYP pic is good!

p.s. I saw Ron Reagan Jr. last night...he was brown and circling around my toilet bowl as I flushed.
