Elderly Swedes bloodied in snow shovel brawl Published: 6 Jan 11 12:48 CET | Double click on a word to get a translation Share 555

Two elderly men beat each other bloody with snow shovels during a fight in a residential neighbourhood in Jönköping in southern central Sweden. Sweden opens first-ever cinema for dogs (7 Jan 11) Blizzards ahead for much of Sweden (6 Jan 11) Icicle knocks Stockholm man unconscious (5 Jan 11) The two neighbours, one man in his seventies and the other in his eighties, disagreed on how to properly deal with removing the snow from the area around their homes.

As the two elderly men were unable to reach resolve their dispute amicably, the disagreement turned ever more heated, soon escalating to a full-out fight, with the men using their snow shovels as weapons.

"Something happened that upset one of the neighbours, who then attacked, while the other one defended himself. It started out with a little shove, then some chaos ensued," Nils-Erik Eriksson, media relations officer at the Jönköping police force, told the local newspaper J-Nytt.

No one was seriously injured in the snowy brawl, although one of the men went to the hospital with a bump on his head and some scratches. The two neighbours have now reported each other to the police for assault, reported the radio station Sveriges Radio Jönköping. TT/The Local (news@thelocal.se/08 656 6518)

Sounds a lot like the aftermath of the Leftist political snow job in the U. S.

Swedish snow shovel fighting will be the winter olympic counterpart to Amish rake fighting.

Sounds like when we were kids. Have a snow ball fight. Part-way through use the shovels as a shield. Get it hard in the face with a snowball. Go after the other kid with your shovel.

I got hit in the face by a hose nossle too during a “water” fight.

Ah, memories. We grew up in North Dakota, less than two blocks away from the elementary school and on the major route home for many of the kids. Just next to our yard was a church parking lot which would push up a giant hill of snow when cleared. By this time of year until sometime mid-March, it was a huge hill.

When the family Christmas tree was discarded, we climbed that hill with a jug of hot water in hand to bore a hole for the tree. Once thrust into the hole, the water would freeze around the tree making our territory.

Every day after school, we would race home to protect that tree, the hill and our territory. My kid brother and a couple of our friends could hold off at least five times as many kids from the high ground. We would rain down snowballs on any who attempted to climb that hill and dislodge our tree.

One day, the opposition decided to get more organized. There were probably 30 or 40 kids headed for our hill. We got out the garden hose and sprayed down the hill. It was a load of fun to see them all get partway up the hill and go sliding down. We warned them that the next attempt to take our tree would mean spraying water directly on them, not just the hill.

Even a North Dakota kid is not going to risk getting soaked when the temperature is -20 or so and they have a long walk home.

Ah, memories.

I remember a news report 25+ years ago. Snow storm in
Chi-town. Eighteen (18) guys dropped dead of heart attacks
brought on from the exertion of shoveling snow.

Now, is snow shovel shoveling more dangerous than snow shovel fighting?

Can't wait for the Skiffy Channel to add that to their non-Scifi
offerings. Not.
