St. Petersburg Police are looking for a stolen car that was taken with a 1-year-old child in the back seat.

Police said the red 2010 Dodge Charger was taken at about 4:15 p.m. from the area of 1st Avenue North and 17th Street. The car has an out-of-state license plate.

WFLA radio had a bit more on this during their 5:30 pm news. The parents left the car running with the kid sleeping in his car seat in the back seat while they visited with friends at an apartment complex. Said they saw someone drive away in the car.

The out-of-state license plate is from North Carolina.

Nothing else on the story just yet.

Probably making a pick-up from their dealer...or that’s my first guess.

Nobody is this stupid. So I agree it is probably drug-related.

Dear Heavenly Father, please surround your precious little one with protection and turn the heart of the one who took him from evil. In Jesus Holy Name, Amen

Apparently both parents were there, which means one could’ve stayed with the baby. Stupid, stupid, stupid.

My wife is a preschool director. She has a constant fight with parents who leave a younger child in the car while they ‘dash in’ to get the sibling. Even if they don’t get tied up waiting to get the child there’s more than enough time for someone to hop in the car and drive away. It’s appalling how often she has to deal with this. They’ve had purses stolen right off the front seat of a car sitting in the parking lot while the parent goes in for something.

More than possible. My first unkind thought was the parents 'did it'/faked it. . .covering it up i.e. 'great story. . .but not buying it.

Good grief; the price of stupidity and 'who' ends up paying for is all so unfair.

I can never get this story out of my mind:

BOY CAUGHT IN SEATBELT IS DRAGGED TO HIS DEATH; Car thief didn't notice little Jake, 6.

The mother left the child for a moment while she picked up a sandwich.

Amazingly, this story got very little national media coverage.

Ok, double posting and replying to my own comment. My apologies. Anyhow, here's a link with more details about the boy who was dragged to death by a car-jacker:

That was my first thought. The father of the child has now been arrested for not cooperating with the policen and for providing them with false information about what happened. His brother has also been arrested for “pointing a gun at two detectives.”

Thanks! I heard it on a news break but was no where near my system to log on and provide an update.

I’m sure we’ll hear more about the whole thing over the next day or so. Dad and Dad’s brother got themselves into a lot of trouble over this.
