The Censorship Of Madmen: We cannot give lunatics editorial control of our discourse
Human Events ^ | January 9, 2011 | John Hayward

Posted on 01/09/2011 1:01:09 AM PST by 2ndDivisionVet

Within hours of the attack on Arizona Representative Gabrielle Giffords, liberal bloggers, pundits, and even politicians raced to pin responsibility on the Tea Party, Sarah Palin, Fox News, Rush Limbaugh, Glenn Beck, and the general “climate of hate” produced by opposition to President Obama’s agenda.

Much was made of Republicans and Tea Party activists who “targeted” Giffords for defeat in the midterm elections. This kind of rhetoric and imagery has been used constantly by both parties for many years. There will probably be a self-imposed ban on it, by all politicians, in the wake of this tragedy. No great loss there.

What would be a great loss would be allowing madmen to censor our discourse. The idea that millions of Americans should meekly submit to an aggressive statist agenda, because resistance might provoke a lunatic to shoot a congresswoman, is deeply offensive to the ideals of liberty and free speech.

Liberals always shriek about a new “climate of hate” when they see an opportunity to bury conservatives beneath a pile of corpses. It’s just another example of “climate change” being used to compel obedience. Let’s focus instead on the climate of free speech, and our united refusal to allow a platoon of maniacs to change it.

To his credit, President Obama has not descended to the depths of Bill Clinton, who casually blamed the Oklahoma City bombings on Rush Limbaugh back in the 90s. Quite a few prominent leftists have refused to follow Obama’s example. This is the disgusting, reflexive opportunism of those who believe every aspect of life is political. We are all property of the State. All resistance to the State is evil. Therefore, all evil is caused by resistance to the State.

Certainly there is anger simmering in the growing resistance to this radical President. Why wouldn’t there be? The Obama Democrats are “transformative,” which means they are aggressive. They want to force you to do a great many things. They’re not shy about using the most insulting rhetoric to shout down your objections. They provide no opportunity for you to gracefully decline participation in their plans… unless you happen to be one of the favored few who receive an ObamaCare waiver. The “consent of the governed” plays no role in thousand-page bills negotiated through secret backroom deals, and pushed through Congress with earmark bribes, in obnoxious defiance of the American people.

The Tea Party movement has done a fantastic job of controlling this anger, and converting its energy to constructive ends. You didn’t see angry mobs at Tea Party rallies, Sarah Palin speeches, or Glenn Beck’s “Restoring Honor” event. They were warm, welcoming, and optimistic, not to mention neat and orderly. Even the idiotic attempt to create “false flag” hate speech for the benefit of the media went belly up. When people attended their first Tea Party rally, they found America waiting for them, and America is inspirational. The gifts of its countenance are courage and good humor.

The attempts to link resistance to violence, or discredit it through manufactured charges of racism, is nothing less than totalitarian. If the exercise of free speech makes you an accessory to murder, there is no such thing as free speech. The Left has spent the last few hours screaming that all dissent from their ideology leads to violence. Well, there is only one form of government that requires violence to achieve dissent. If the Left wants to push this meme, they are indicting themselves as tyrants.

You can’t put a paranoid lunatic like Jared Loughner, the Tucson shooter, anywhere on the Left or Right of our political spectrum. This was equally true of Clay Duke, the Panama City school board shooter, who was marinated in a thick stew of socialist literature, class envy, and hard-Left websites. It was true of Joseph Stack, the man who flew his airplane into an IRS building in Austin, Texas, leaving behind an anti-capitalist manifesto that approvingly cited the “communist creed.” It was true of James Lee, the environmental extremist who used bombs to take hostages at the Discovery Channel headquarters last September.

No matter what any of these deranged individuals professed to believe, their crimes should not be pinned on the free expression of liberals, because we should not grant editorial control of our speech to lunatics. Likewise, Jared Loughner is responsible for his actions. No matter what ultimately motivated him to shoot Representative Giffords and murder six other people, including a little girl, no part of the blame rests with whoever he happened to agree with, or criticize.

Those who use the corpses of his victims as marionettes for political theater are also responsible for their actions, and deserve our contempt. If liberal Americans have any self-respect, a lot of loudmouths will come to remember January 8, 2010 as they day their soulless careers finally ended.

Some rantings of Loughlin on abovetopsecret.com. To their credit they are keeping them intact for investigators

And here is the money quote. A guy over the internet was able to identify Loughlin as have serious mental problems and urges him to seek help before he hurts himself or others! Where were the Pima County officials? The school knew, the cops knew and certainly his parents knew, but nobody did anything!

I really do care.

Seek help before you hurt yourself or others or start taking your medications again, please. Maybe, it'd be better for some there be an infinite source of haldol or cogentin then fiat currency.

I can occasionally change the avatar into other stick figures for humor. I didn't say anything about an amateur opinion from anyone. I enjoy the concern because of the misspellings of words that occur. There's trouble with misspelling of words in all posters.

This is fine because of the Edit button. Don't stereotype the misspellings of words ! The inductive argument is frightening for scholarly research. Ill get to the location of the currency in the next post.

Thank you for the concern.

“You can’t put a paranoid lunatic like Jared Loughner, the Tucson shooter, anywhere on the Left or Right of our political spectrum.”

Not so.

At this point, information about his politics shows Loughner was a leftist.

But more important is the fact that leftist thinking by nature is incoherent, a condition resulting from the chaos of relativism.

Relativism asserts there is no ultimate truth, allowing leftists to engage in their common practice of asserting one thing today and then completely contradicting themselves tomorrow.

It seems Loughner merely followed liberal thinking to its ultimate conclusion.

This stuff reads like some same incoherent stuff coming out of Zero’s mouth. It’s a make believe, self brain washing, hard self-coring wishful thinking pseudo-logic liberals engage into. It’s based on pure machine computer like IF THEN BANG Pelosian rhetoric - of denial about being pro-budget restraint or what not.

It’s uncanny to read the hate profused against Fox News regarding this event as the same exact “story ignoring” pseudo-logical slogan adopting of the left, or, at least, their express usage of a language which attracts the vote of such lunatics.

The only difference with Loughlin is that we see it in the open with him, whereas most liberals go through this scenario in their own heads and hide it pretty well except when in their dinners, together, where they can express their moment of 5 min of hate, bullying dissent, or as bureaucrates pulling triggers from the comforts of seat as The Man Behind The Curtain.

Very scary.

Precisely. There are postings on the 'Net saying that Jared Lee Loughner was a member of Free Republic and it was down because it was "scrubbing" his postings.

Even without claiming Loughner was a FReeper there is this "Free Republic tries to scrub its boards of anti-Gifford violence screeds (and possibly that of the shooter Jared Loughner, 22)"

We cannot let these sick-puppy liberals use these lies and filthy tactics to stifle our free speech rights.

I heard the campaign of lies on local talk radio yesterday and I am sure the Sunday talk shows will be full of liberal lies and generalities.

RE: "By Tuesday, the kenyan will have blamed Limbaugh for organizing the shooting."

.. yes it is just a matter of days. The other sick puppies have already gone bonkers.

I remember the exact same thing happening when JFK was assassinated.

The exact same liberal emotional clattering that conservative hate caused Oswald to assassinate the president.

Never mind that Oswald had ties to communism and had earlier attempted to assassinate a prominent conservative and former Army major general.

Liberals are some really sick puppies.

.. but they took advantage of the assassination of JFK and used the FCC "Fairness Doctrine" to shutdown conservative free speech on radio for more than two decades.

We cannot allow liberals to use lies and filthy tactics to stifle free speech rights a second time.

That is absolutely true. A person like this, who is extremely delusional, will latch onto any kind of drama to incorporate into their world. Politics has drama so it is a natural hook for paranoid delusions. There is no rational meaning in the things he liked or disliked.

Agree. The basic truth is that the liberal left and the MSM will use this incident to suppress conservatism - at any cost. The leaps of logic and conservative connection to this crime (Palin's Web Page, for example) boggle the rational mind.

It's already started, and frankly these leaps and conjecture are strikingly similar to excerpts below from this killer. Why not? They were all reared in a culture of socialism which they call 'fairness', and they have been taught an irrational hatred of anyone not thinking like them.

Yes, thank you for reminding us of Pima County Sheriff Clarence Dupnik.

I too heard that disgusting man use the horrific tragedy to push his ideological agenda. Just as I recall the country's hoity-toity liberal elite use the JFK assassination for political advantage and of course B.J., et al tried to use the horrific OKC bombing. Along with their lies it's what liberals do.

San Francisco KSFO's Barbara Simpson carried the news conference on her week-end show.

.. and I am proud to say that the conservatives of the San Francisco Bay Area and throughout northern California were quick to respond and condemn the man for his uncouth behavior.

To be fair, Ms Simpson pointed out that the man knew some of the victims and perhaps that made him a little muddle-headed (my term).
