Wilmington, Delaware (CNN) -- Police have found homicide victim John Wheeler's cell phone, according to a taxi driver who was interviewed by investigators this week.

Athel Scott told CNN National Correspondent Susan Candiotti that police told him they found the cab driver's number in the phone of Wheeler, the former Pentagon official who was found dead in a Delaware landfill. He said investigators wanted to know how his number got there. Scott... says he told the police he didn't have any idea.

"I never got a call from the man. I don't know him... He's never been in my cab. I don't know how my number got in his cellphone," Scott says he told police...

I see Jack’s behavior as a man trying to escape....
He was looking for his attorney....why...did he want to give some information that could be revealed in the event of his death?...
The trip to Madrid could be Jack himself, trying to setup a diversion so they would look for him at the airport.

I agree; he appeared to be trying to elude pursuers in the tape. As for the Madrid angle, that would depend on the date of the purchases.

I hope some FBI or Newark case analysts are reading. More eyes on the problem. We concerned citizens on FR, especially the VN-era folks, knew from the first that it was a hit.

Here is an excerpt from the Newark PD Press Release dated
December 31, 2010
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
SUBJECT: Newark Police Investigating Body Discovered at Wilmington Landfill

The Newark Police Criminal Investigations Division is currently investigating the case of a body being discovered at the Cherry Island Landfill on 12/31/2010. At approximately 9:56 am the Wilmington police Department was called to the landfill to investigate a report of a body being dumped out of a Waste Management refuse truck. The subsequent investigation by WPD revealed that all of the stops that the Waste Management truck made occurred in the City of Newark. Newark Detectives then became involved in the investigation.

The Delaware Medical Examiner’s Office conducted an autopsy on the victim and ruled the death a homicide. The identity of the victim is not being released at this time, pending the notification of kin. ... =================================
If they announced the death was a homicide on the 31st, there is no way they would have told her a heart attack.

I suggest everyone go back and read the early stuff because after this wife's "outburst", there's an entirely different perspective.

She sure made herself a person of interest and I do believe there's a huge possibility that she put a hit out on him and THAT's why she went to the wedding alone...it's called an alibi.

With Jack gone, she can make up any story she wants about their last time together...

She expected them to have a "happy week" together?? He writes "Stuck in NY"...two days in a row"...

not sure if I may transpose the entire article (not that I would want to anyway, seeing as 95% is rehash)

however, two items caught my eye:

a) fifth paragraph, “Authorities have ruled Wheeler died from a blunt force trauma ....DURING..... an assault.”

b) paragraph six, Retired Army Col. Doug Thormblom is mentioned. His quote comprises the last paragraph of the article and is worth mentioning:
“If it was a simple mugging, why aren’t they saying so and calling on citizens to report if they saw two guys picking somebody up? asks Thornblom. “What are they holding back? What do they hope to accomplish by being so mysterious?”
