Exclusive: Loughner Friend Explains Alleged Gunman's Grudge Against Giffords
Mother Jones ^ | 10 January, 2011 | Nick Bauman

Posted on 01/10/2011 8:35:17 AM PST by SE Mom

At 2:00 a.m. on Saturday—about eight hours before he allegedly killed six people and wounded 14, including Rep. Gabrielle Giffords (D-Ariz.), in Tucson—Jared Lee Loughner phoned an old and close friend with whom he had gone to high school and college. The friend, Bryce Tierney, was up late watching TV, but he didn't answer the call. When he later checked his voice mail, he heard a simple message from Loughner: "Hey man, it's Jared. Me and you had good times. Peace out. Later."

That was it. But later in the day, when Tierney first heard about the Tucson massacre, he had a sickening feeling: "They hadn't released the name, but I said, 'Holy shit, I think it's Jared that did it.'" ...

In messages on MySpace last month, Loughner declared, "I'll see you on National T.v.! This is foreshadow." He also noted on the website, "I don't feel good: I'm ready to kill a police officer! I can say it." ...

"I think the reason he did it was mainly to just promote chaos. He wanted the media to freak out about this whole thing. He wanted exactly what's happening. He wants all of that."

Tierney tells Mother Jones in an exclusive interview that Loughner held a years-long grudge against Giffords and had repeatedly derided her as a “fake.”

"Fake" in the context of a Dem politician would imply "not genuinely Leftist".

The Guardian and Mother Jones are the ones posting sane coverage of this story?

I almost didn't read it because it was from Mother Jones. He will have plenty of time to dream about this during his time on death row.

“Dude, no one’s going to answer that,”

His friend was being honest with him. It's a shame he wouldn't (perhaps couldn't?) pay heed to him.

Obama: “They Bring a Knife…We Bring a Gun”
Obama to His Followers: “Get in Their Faces!”
Obama on ACORN Mobs: “I don’t want to quell anger. I think people are right to be angry! I’m angry!”
Obama to His Mercenary Army: “Hit Back Twice As Hard”
Obama on the private sector: “We talk to these folks… so I know whose ass to kick.“
Obama to voters: Republican victory would mean “hand to hand combat”
Obama to lib supporters: “It’s time to Fight for it.”
Obama to Latino supporters: “Punish your enemies.”
Obama to democrats: “I’m itching for a fight.”

Thanks. Got to remember this.

Amen. I have thought, if I were the mother of a mentally ill child who killed someone, that I would so much wish that he had killed me instead, and kept the pain and sorrow in one family.

I did know a mother who kept her schizophrenic son at home, and created a job for him in her company. He killed her and his father, and my prayer was, “Dear God, how horrible. Thank you that it was them...”

Also, is this idiotic dream crap just daydreaming? Is that what he was doing?

It is amusing. The left uses “anarchists”. If you ever go to “anarchist” sites and actually read and understand their philosophy, they are collectivist like everyone else on the left. They just happen to have different perversions and aberrant behaviors that they prefer.

It really is not hard to find some self-described “anarchist” talking about how a global government is needed to address global warming.

A true anarchist, when properly placed on the political spectrum, would be to the right of most libertarians. Most libertarians you run into will want as small a government as possible, but still want some government to protect individuals’ property rights. Most acknowledge that you can’t have a functioning economy if you have to spend all your time guarding your stuff from roaming looters.

It is a bit ironic that this nut-job also complained about people being illiterate the meaning of words being lost.

I have and continue to pray for his parents.

I worded it poorly..I’m wondering about the background of this young man and how it may or may not have a bearing on who he’s become.

>>”No one is “guilty” of a crime until convicted” <<

You got me there. That notion vaugely penetrated my brain when re-reading my post... But then it was too late.

Live and learn again.

I think what he might have meant to write was “conscious dreaming”. Maybe that is his term for “lucid dreaming”. That concept also inspired some other leftists - Queensryche wrote “Silent Lucidity” about it.

After Loughner apparently gave up drugs and booze, "his theories got worse,"

He smoked pot until he went schizo. Just my opinion of course.

I read he bought a Glock, and in one of the hundreds of threads here, several freepers how an unemployed kid living at home could possibly afford a Glock - so I presume it is a very expensive gun.

there is no place for a general Federal statute against murder

But they can make laws for virtually EVERYTHING else?

A New York morning radio talk show host, Joe Crummy (ABC 770AM, 10{AM to Noon) had this analogy about the stupidity of trying to find a rational basis and motivational cause for what this killer did:

(I can only paraphrase what he said)

“It’s like looking at someone standing in front of one of those fun house mirrors, and believing you can tell exactly what they would look like if they weren’t.”

There’s about as much rational basis to knowing what made this guy tick and what caused him to act (and thereby assign “blame”) as there is a stable personality to the guy in the first place. Which is exactly nil.

Not outrageously expensive. It is not like he had a custom shop Kimber.

” He smoked pot until he went schizo. “

Yeah - there’s a real price difference, there, for much the same effect.... ;)

Wasn't he living at home?

Yes, he was. Everything we know about Loughner so far indicates he likely is schizophrenic. It is an incurable disease that afflicts young people, and begins to manifest symptoms in the late teens and early 20's. In the early stages, the parents might easily have thought they were dealing with typical teenage rebellion. By the time they realized his problems went deeper, almost certainly after he turned 18, there was nothing they could legally do. Our mental health system in this country was gutted long ago (by Democrats), and we have no way to commit the mentally ill. We can't force them to get treatment or to take meds. It's why so many wander our streets as homeless people.

Unless it comes out that the parents were abusive or neglectful, it's as much of a mistake to blame the parents for something like this as it is to blame conservatives.
