The Army is studying whether to open combat arms units to female Soldiers, the Army's top officer said Jan. 6.
"We're looking at revising the policy," Gen. George W. Casey Jr. told a breakfast gathering of the Association of the U.S. Army in Arlington, Va. "We've had some work going on for a while, and that'll double back up to the secretary, I would think, in the next couple of months." Women are currently barred from infantry, armor and Special Forces branches, Casey said.
He did not say whether the Army is considering opening up all three areas to women, but he did say the study looked at the possibility of women in infantry.

Sounds reasonable. My son is a volunteer firefighter, big, strong and athletic, and he has some trouble handling the hoses. I’ve seen three firefighters together struggling with the hose - part of it is strength and part is technique and experience.
Of course the department also has a woman who is 4’10, and a fat guy who weighs more than 300 lb, and it’s for sure they aren’t doing all the same job physically.
This is all BS. They already have women in combat arms. They attend Sapper, Airborne, and other combat training programs and the military places them in a “non-combat” MOS but then places them in combat roles.

Maybe that is why this is being considered. I would bet most women would not have a problem serving with a gay man. When the men on the front lines decide not to re-up they can fill those spots with women.

Redefine in the minds of children what men and woman can do....put the images of women in combat—out of the home—away from nurturing infants. Put men in makeup, earrings, as mommies.....Create a new paradigm for the next generation so they won’t want to do the “traditional” roles—it will be the “unnatural” for women to nurture children, unnatural for men to be loyal to their wives and help support and raise children (oh, they already killed that “idea” in boy’s heads) Now they are trying to homosexualize the boys and put them into tutus. Take all competition out of schools. Demonize healthy male attachments and make it into a sexual thing.
They used feminism to destroy children’s emotional and physical well being so that government could shape the worldview and children are emotionally made to have little self-worth (their own mommy had no time for them) and so they are easily manipulated by everyone’s ideas—(like that shooter in AZ.)
Natural Law Theory of thousands of years of philosophy and the arrogant Marxists are wrong. Happiness can never be attained by denying Natural Law and God’s Laws. Never. Founders understood that—that is why happiness and the nature of man and God’s laws are in our Founding documents.
Defying Natural Law leads to dysfunction and unhappiness and meaninglessness. It is the Culture of Death and nihilism....one of atheism and godlessness that they are forcing onto our culture—one that will eventually allow only “groupthink”—one way to think—like they are forcing on the military with their repeal of DADT. Redefining Natural Law so that it becomes meaningless and no longer the basis of our laws and thinking (no common sense and logic).

10 years ago, I would have guaranteed that liberals wanted it because they worshiped Feminism. But now they don’t want to offend Muslims.
I don’t have a problem with this if:
1. They complete and pass the same, unmodified, physical fitness tests as their male counterparts
2.Are willing to accept the horrors associated with being a female POW

PT is not the issue. Many people on ships (Chiefs especially) couldn’t pass a PT test, but you don’t want to lose them because of all their experience on how stuff gets done.
It boils down to this - nobody wants to look at this issue from the aspect of actually conducting combat. In the Navy you may have to be at sea for a long time. On a sub, it is so much worse than that. Women and being deployed is simply a stupid idea, harder on the families of sailors than on the sailors themselves.
On a sub, you have to ask whether you have the ability to subdivide what precious little personal privacy there is, especially for enlisted. Is there enough for Lesbian, Gay, Transexual, Bisexual, Heterosexuals, and Women to share with your average Male?
I guess there is if you’re willing to go without weapon systems, radar, main prop, and the galley.
We can’t get rid of this administration fast enough. The amount of damage in the period of time is breathtaking.
Well, let me interject a bit of a disclaimer to a lot of the posts here.
My daughter was (and is) a musician. After graduating with high honors from a very good mid-western music school (with a degree in music performance no less), she went to BU and got degrees in performance and education. She then ran the secondary winds program at a place called Tanglewood, in MA, for several years, among other things forming her own quintet that performed often in MA.
At the age of 30 (!), she decided to enroll in a much tougher school, sometimes jokingly called the “University of Parris Island”.
She is now a Staff Sergeant (select) in the USMC. Based in Virginia.
I suspect she did this because of a sense of competition with her younger brother, who is a USAF Major, has already flown many combat missions in Iraq and Afghanistan, and will be going back there in a few weeks, I have no other children.
Except for a few physical requirements, she basically had to do the same stuff the men did (rifle qual, pistol qual (ground security force), MCMAP).
I would not want her in the “front lines” in Afghanistan (whatever those are)
but based here (VA) she is quite ready to put down her instrument and pick up her M9, M16, shotgun or whatever, and defend her base (kind of like the band members, along with some cooks and others, who fought off a Japanese attack during Guadalcanal) .
(The joke in our family is that if they go into a rough bar, it will be my daughter who gets my son out of a jam... not the other way around.)
The rules of war have changed with Islamic terrorism (Maj Nidal Hassan anyone?). The reason why we can send more men over there is because we have people like my daughter, be they typists, musicians, or whatever, who can kill terrorists who might (amazed it hasn’t happened so far) attack a base here.
If that happens, they won’t have to carry men very far away... it will be over, one way or another, in the blink of an eye.
