Funeral pickets to be met by 'angels'

Tucson, Arizona (CNN) -- Tucson just isn't that kind of town, says Christin Gilmer.

Gilmer is talking about Westboro Baptist Church of Topeka, Kansas, that has made its name picketing the funerals of people who died of AIDS, gay people, soldiers and even Coretta Scott King.

**SNIP**

They're planning an "angel action" -- with 8-by-10-foot "angel wings" worn by participants and used to shield mourners from pickets. The actions were created by Coloradan Romaine Patterson, who was shocked to find the Topeka church and its neon signs outside the 1999 funeral of Matthew Shepherd, a young gay man beaten and left on a fence to die in Laramie, Wyoming.

"We want to surround them, in a nonviolent way, to say that our community is united," Gilmer said. "We're a peaceful haven."

"You don't mess with Tucson," said Gilmer, 26, who described it as "a little dot of blue in a sea of red."

This Gilmer is a self-righteous nasty little piece of work. She attempts to politicize the wings event by referring to Tucson as a dot of “blue in a sea of red” - indicating that only “blue” people oppose the insanity of the Westboro Church. I am tired to death of these loathsome, self-satisfied twerps attempting to lecture from what they perceive as their exalted positions.

She is going to whip up large wings in a few days? Too bad CNN is covering political finger pointers still.

I agree, She is insinuating those Westboro loons are conservatives.

They are Dem operatives who are ALGORE supporters.
She can take her wings and shove ‘em where the sun don't shine.

Apparently this hack doesn't see that Tucson is obviously not a peaceful community.

How is it that we never hear about the Westboro idiots protesting at the funeral of a deceased gay person? Do they even do that?

Thanks for posting!

These shameless, publicity-seeking Westboro loons have pure hatred in their hearts. They are not true Christians.

God bless all who are trying to help the grieving Green family have a proper and dignified funeral service for this precious and beloved child.

No, they’re not. They know their master is Satan. They are a Demonrat organization with close ties to Al Gore, exploiting the media’s bias to demonize Christians. It’s called “black ops.”

The Westboro Haters are NOT “Baptists,” nor are they a “Church.” ANd they certainly are NOT “Conservatives,” but we can neither label then “Leftists” either. Those labels just don’t fit.

They are their own special brand of “Cult,” “Extremists,” or “Radicals.” They could legitimately be called “Homophobic” or a “Hate Group.” But other terms just don’t apply.

About 20 years ago, my sister was part of an environmental group protesting the slaughter of a certain mammal overseas. There was a company that broke laws to continue the slaughter so the environmental group ‘lightly vandalized’ their equipment over a period of time. No one was hurt and all was done in the middle of the night. The company’s insurance was increased exponentially and unaffordably and the company went out of business in a few months.
Not saying it is right, not saying it is wrong.

I’m just sayin’

The “Westboro Baptist Church” is a bunch of Left Wing Loonies dressing up as conservative ‘extremists’ to try to make conservatives look bad.

No true religious conservative would demonstrate at a funeral of a gay person and bring more grief to the family.

Follow the money.

The organizer of this ‘church’ is a high ranking left wing activist. We’re talking one or two levels below Van Jones, the former obama czar and current Soros agitprop.

This ‘church’ has no home (if I remember correctly there is no actual church)
