Airbus says it has landed largest jet order in history

Airbus said today that it has landed a $16 billion deal with India's IndiGo for 180 aircraft.
The European jet maker says this is the largest single order for aircraft in commercial aviation history.
The tentative order includes 30 of Airbus original A320 single-aisle jets and 150 of Airbus's new engine option A320s, due out in 2016. This is Airbus's first order for the A320 neo, which Airbus says will save carriers 15 percent on fuel costs.
"The A320 Family is the recognised market leader. The A320neo, offering maximum benefit for minimum change, will ensure that this continues to be the case for many years to come," John Leahy, Airbus's chief operating officer, said in a statement.
IndiGo, a low cost carrier, already had ordered 100 A320s from Airbus in 2005.
The airline will select the engines for the A320 neo jets later. The new A320s come with the option of CFM International's LEAP-X engine and Pratt &

What’s the status on Boeing’s delayed orders to another airline there?

India’s Spice Jet announced in November a purchance of 30 737-800s from Boeing. Boeing is not hurting in the single aisle program. They have so many on the books that If you order an airplane today, they may ask you when in 2016 do you want it delivered.

List prices, probably. The real contract? Guessing a bit over half of that.
Sounds about right. The 2 companies use these birds as loss leaders, going for profit on the maintenance and spares...not to mention future sales. Hook em dirt cheap early, then milk the cash cow later.
Whatever the final figure, whatever the untold billions, it’s 180 aircraft! one hundred and eighty! That’s our lunch they’re feasting on, no matter whatever great news might be coming from Boeing. During the development of the 747, there was great fear of Boeing going into a financial nose-dive, heavily in the lurch, Well, we all know how that turned out as the most successful plane in history. Now,we’ve got the 787 in a technological, logistical morass not the least of which is it being 3 years late. While the boondoggle that has been the 787 so far, is nowhere near placing the company in jeopardy with big orders for all in its family of aircraft, the 787 has taken the company’s reputation, finances for the longest ride.
I ever thought boeings most successful product was the infamous 737. The 737 always was the “bread and butter” bird for boeing. The 737 was never loved by the company and got almost abandoned in the 1980s. But it still is the cash cow of the company.
Once the undisputed master of its domain, now has the European underachievers eating our lunch.
