As the funeral for the youngest victim of the mass shooting in Arizona was set to begin Thursday, the largest flag recovered from Ground Zero after the 9/11 attacks on the World Trade Center was unfurled and raised, flanked by two fire trucks with ladders extended.
Nine-year-old Christina Taylor Green was born on Sept. 11, 2001, and featured in a book called "Faces of Hope" that chronicled one baby from each state born on the day terrorists killed nearly 3,000 people. Christina's funeral is the first for the six victims killed when police said a gunman opened fired on a crowd at an event for Rep. Gabrielle Giffords, gravely injuring the congresswoman and wounding 13 others.
The third-grader had an interest in politics and had recently been elected to her student council. She was also the only girl on her Little League baseball team.
As the city mourned the little girl, more details and documents surfaced about the suspect, Jared Loughner. For four years, he was an unremarkable college student, commuting to classes near his home where he studied yoga and algebra, business management and poetry.

[9/11 flag unfurled, raised at Ariz. girl’s funeral]
That was a very nice and appropriate thing to do!!
You are the King of great threads Kaslin...
Nice for the girl...but bammy and his lib followers could have cared less about 9/11. Remember 9/11 was our fault. Just saying.
I was talking about the honor to the little girl. She was born on that day so it was appropriate.
Obama doesn’t have to be brought into every single discussion.
“That was a very nice and appropriate thing to do!!”
Sure was.
It was a real lump-in-the-throat moment when I saw that. Rest in peace, Christina.
*sniff* What a beautiful thing to do. May God help this family in their hour of grief and suffering.
THANK YOU! Couldn't possibly agree more. Can we possibly have a thread on FR without mentioning that poc's name?
(Back to the topic of the thread...) My heart just broke for the parents of that sweet little girl last night having to suffer through that memorial service campaign rally, and again today as they buried their daughter.
It just isn't right, parents burying their children .... especially in this case.
Did those a-holes from the Kansas church show up?
Bump to that!
I didn’t get to watch and wish I had now!
[THANK YOU! Couldn’t possibly agree more.]
And I thank you very much!
Nothing worse than losing a child. I have prayed for the parents, can’t imagine their hurt.
No they did not. They had been promised to be able to appear on 2 talk shows. One was the Mike Gallagher show and I don’t know who the other one was
Prayers offered up.
Yes it was.
Thanks, but yikes. The last time I checked I was a she. LOL
Hi Kas, thank you!
Excellent point
