The Weld County Sheriff's Office today temporarily suspended the concealed weapon permit of Greeley School Board member Brett Reese after he allegedly threatened a shootout with a rival radio station owner in a dispute over advertising.
Justin Sasso, general manager of 1310 KFKA radio, filed for a restraining order after Reese left a message for Sasso on his voice mail.

Voice mail is not your friend.
Funny you can’t suspend a speech right but you can suspend a gun right. Why are people allowing government to treat a gun right like a drivers license???
“Political correctness runs amok over the Second Amendment and the First Amendment in Greeley, Colorado?”
Greeley is named after Horace Greeley, a whacked out socialist. The town seems line bred socialist.
However, no sane person threatens someone. Allowing ones self to become that angry and out of control is dangerous.
Ya might jerk the trigger and miss!
;-)
so if a literal duel is not what he had in mind then what did he?
These a**holes tell us driving is a privilege, then take away a constitutional right.
I am not a Colorado resident but I know many states allow concealed carry in compliance with state law at the discretion of the Sheriff. If the Sheriff suspended his CCW license he has the right to do so and felt he had the justification. Having known a few Sheriff’s they worry about getting sued just like everyone else in America.
There seems to be three issues at play in this story.... an obvious conflict with an allegation of recorded threats, the suspension of CCW rights, and comments by this gentleman that some would deem politically incorrect.
The simple fact that the guy carries a gun and has a CCW does not make him a hero. He has a first amendment right to say or broadcast his opinions of MLK but the first amendment does not allow him to threaten any person when he obviously has the means to carry out the threat purposely displayed on his hip. If true, that does not reflect well on other CCW holders and I don’t appreciate that.
It does sound like Greeley has pretty interesting school board meetings! I will be curious to see how this one plays out.
Greeley, and Weld County, is a fairly conservative part of Colorado. Sheriff Cook is one of the best in the state, as far as issuing CCW permits is concerned.
Thanks for letting me know that. I suspect there are still many on here that will crucify the Sheriff for suspending the guy’s CCW but I am not one of them. If he felt like that action was prudent it appears from the limited information given that he had enough justification.
Most Sheriff’s (except that idiot blaming us for schizophrenia) seem to have more common sense than the average Joe.
