Yes, as I posted in reply #49, I have discovered that each bulb contains only about 4 mg of mercury, and if the bulb has been used a while, about 90% of that mercury is bound to the inner surface of the tube, leaving only 0.4 mg to vaporize. That’s a pretty small amount, and it wouldn’t take long to vaporize if there is a draft of warm air.
Yes, YMMV. I repeat, “All the CFLs I’ve thus far bought have burnt out much more quickly on average than incadescents.” Even if that were NOT true, it is not right that government has the power to FORCE a consumer “choice” ... but in my case it is a dreadful waste.
