That is all a matter of perspective. If we (in the South) can get over the war... and we certainly have... so can you. We are all Americans today... and a subset of Americans called Conservatives. Those are the facts.

“You would have got a swat across the backside of your head...”

I doubt that. I’m sure they heard that a lot. There was a time after the war when it looked like Lee was going to be hanged. He was indicted for treason. But Grant went to Andrew Johnson and threatened to resign because he considered it a violation of the terms of surrender at Appomattox.

We in the South know we lost the good battle. We are all indeed Americans and I for one am a Conservative...But, we in the South will never foget the great men and women who helped make this a great nation. Lest We Forget!

Americans are so dumbed down in American via American history they haven’t a clue what their civil war was about. Some people on this thread probably still believe Christoper Columbus discovered American while the Indians had lived in America for years.

I lived in Winchester, VA and the holiday was called Lee-Jackson-King Day.

Stonewall - not Jesse.

Here in Richmond today, there was a tent and Confederate uniformed soldiers standing guard at the impressive Lee Monument.

Robert’s father, “Light Horse” Harry (Richard Henry Lee) was one of George Wsshington’s closest friends. He gave the eulogy at Washington’s funeral and is credited with the phrase, “ First in was, first in peace, first in the hearts if his countrymen..”, (a part of his eulogy).

“Just stop for a moment and think about it. This is not “ancient history””

A friend of mine is direct descendant of Lee and has a strikingly similar appearance.
