The Americas President Committee wants Indiana congressman Mike Pence to run for president. The group which is made up of former Republican congressman Jim Ryun and Ralph Benko, a former Reagan-administration aide and author of the book The Websters Dictionary: How to Use the Web to Transform the World has set up a new site, The Conservative Champion, dedicated to the concept of Pence for President. Benko spoke to NRO about the motivation behind the site.
NRO: Why Mike Pence?
BENKO: Mike Pence is extraordinary. He is across-the-board rock solid: He is pro-growth in a way I havent seen since Reagan-Kemp, he is staunchly pro-faith and a champion of social issues, and he showed courage under fire in fighting against the bailouts, the entitlements expansion, and TARP. He demonstrates impeccable integrity when tested.
NRO: Does he need to be drafted? He has seemed to court a national audience without you.
BENKO: This is not a draft movement. We are calling on him to run, and we are urging folks to go to TheConservativeChampion.org if they would like to see Mike Pence run for president.
NRO: Whats the difference between drafting and what youre doing?
BENKO: Mr. Pence has reportedly said that he will decide whether or not to declare for the presidency by the end of this month. We believed we detected massive enthusiasm for his candidacy not by polling or anything, just by things like informally asking rather a lot of very respected conservative leaders. We discovered that Pence was at the top of the list for the vast majority of them and near the top for the rest. We are merely making this small gesture to help surface what we think is a lot of latent excitement about Mike Pence so he can

Campaign slogan:
“Pence for Our Time!”
No?
That's the ticket.
Or Pense Makes Sense
He is going to make a GREAT Governor!
He will if that’s what he does.
Good, I would like to see some fresh candidates without lots of baggage like those others,
Wow. One House Rep pushing another House Rep to run for President. I don’t care how Conservative Ryun is, he doesn’t really have the heft to make this a national movement. Either does an ex-Presidential aide.
Pence should stick to running for Gov or better yet knock out Lugar who came out today supporting another “assault” rifle ban.
So far I like Pence.
Good slogan (Pence makes sense).
I have no objections, but as Adam said in Seven Brides for Seven Brothers, I am not going to commit until I look them ALL over.
Me neither, but darn it, with about 20 RINOs threatening to run, we’ve got to get some rock-ribbed conservatives in the game.
Yup. The only Conservatives with guts are:
DeMint
Pence
Bachmann
Duncan Hunter
Palin
Paul Ryan
Marco Rubio
I read a speech by Pence in Imprimus magazien (Hillsdale College) and frankly, it was a helluva speech. I have no idea how well he comes across speaking, but that speech! I was truly impressed. We should definitely be looking at him.
Rubio is not a natural born US citizen .
I thought I read that Rubio was born in Miami.
Attended a Pence presentation recently and was impressed with his speaking and strong principles. He is a good Conservative in a solid mid-western sense. I have some concerns about Pence’s physically or presence, he appears to me like someone that has lost a lot of weight sort of like Huckabee....not a warrior physical type more of a plodder. That may be a good thing though, someone that will be dogged pursuing principles.
lol...he has not lost weight...gained a little if anything.
Something about his father not being a citizen at the time of his birth .
I don't remember. If and when it comes time, the vetting process should be pretty simple and straightforward.
