STORY

MIAMI INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT (WSVN) -- A man has been arrested after, officials said, he caused a security scare at a South Florida airport.

On Jan. 11, Miami-Dade Police officers stopped Oluwole Aboyade in the Dolphin parking garage at MIA after he reportedly began taking pictures of sensitive areas at the airport.

According to a Miami-Dade Police report, an officer said he became alarmed when he saw Aboyade taking pictures of buildings, surveillance cameras, airport runways and restricted areas. When the police approached the Nigerian national, he said he would remain silent. The police report read, "Mr. Aboyade was observed walking through the terminal and parking garages taking pictures ... upon making contact ... he became very evasive."

"He was approached by several of our uniformed officers who were very alert in seeing what was going on in order to question him and find out exactly why he was there. While questioning him, a lot of things he refused to answer. He was very evasive. He did not want to give any answers whatsoever," Miami-Dade Police Detective Bobby Williams said. "A detective was summoned from that airport bureau there, responded and subsequently, Mr. Aboyade was arrested, because he could not dispel the detective's fear for the safety of people or property."

Police said, Aboyade was in the US illegally. The police report read, "Upon arrival at the station, it was learned that Mr. Aboyade had overstayed his work visa and was wanted by ICE."

Being “illegal” probably makes it EASIER for him to get off than it would be for you and me!

From the way the Public Information Officer described it they can charge him with L&P, Loitering and Prowling; person being at a time, place and doing something which when explained by the subject CANNOT DISPEL the officer’s concern for the safety of persons and property in the area.

That is the reasonn for the arrest and once you have him in custody, other questions may arise including handing him over to Border Patrol/FBI for additional questions and/or deportation.

...Mr. Aboyade had overstayed his work visa and was wanted by ICE."

So, turn him over to ICE and chances are, the ICEholes will let him go!

Not allowed (legal?) in certain areas at airports or cruise terminals. We were stopped from taking pictures several times. At the drop-off point at Miami's cruise terminal, and several places in the airport. My BIL was in the "tank" being searched because of an artifical joint, and I was stopped from taking a pic of him there, as well.

FYI, you are not permitted to use a cell phone when disembarking from a cruise ship, going through customs, at FLL.

Mia Kirschner?

No, no... Mia Hamm. He was curious why it's forbidden by his religion to contact her.

Go that right.

As the Border Patrol Agents say regarding endless court appearances and limitless appeals; “It ain’t over til the illegal wins.”

From the article:

“Police said, Aboyade was in the US illegally”

Somebody needs to tell the WSVN staff

a) Despite what they may have taught you in journalism school, one does not throw commas into sentences randomly

b) If you check the current MSM style manual, your sentence should have been recast to read “Police said Aboyade was in the US undocumentedly”.

...one does not throw commas into sentences randomly...

Yeah, you might get this:

"What's that flying around, your head?"

Rather than:

"What's that flying around your head?"

Nigerian national

A graduation of another nation into the terrorist ranks?
There are some comments at the 'STORY' link, I found
interesting. Someone surmised he was looking for a
free ticket home. I would say this will be ultimately
the only thing done to this graduate into the
ranks of those who will eventually bring harm to America,
by their actions of recon and planning for the terrorists.

Other comments disheartened me further, at the 'STORY' link.
There are too many Americans who still support protection
for those persons doing recon or worse for the terrorists...imho

Being in the country 'illegally' still does not register
with many, who should know better. An illegal breeds
more, much more, in the broad scope of an activity
know as being illegal. I would like to attach a (imho)
to my prior typed thought, instead if I was to attach
a label of imho, I would be a liar.

Aside from the "reasonable expectation of privacy" exception, there is also one for national security. You cannot walk up to the fence line of a military base and start snapping pics of the base layout. Military, nuclear power plants, other "sensitive" installations are off limits - even what is visible from public property.

Since when? I want documentation.

“Mr. Aboyade was arrested, because he could not dispel the detective’s fear for the safety of people or property”

I’m curious as to what laws he broke that led to his arrest (not the overstaying of his visa, they didn’t know that yet.) What sort of law allows for arrest because of a detective’s fear for safety?

was given such a look of contempt and derision plus a short lecture.

Maybe the officer was in on it?

“Just a guess on my part, but I’ll bet that Miami is being probed and reconned as part of a coming attack,”

No, the guy was going to go viral with an internet report about how lax security is at MIA, so that TSA and the airport can fix it, and make us all safer.

He’s a hero, just like that pilot with his YouTube report. The cops are covering for their cronies in management, who are aware of the problems, but won’t fix them because they might lose their jobs.

Right?

I got the “swarm, swarm, swarm” treatment at Long Beach airport for doing a 2 minute video for my Confirmation class 2 years ago.
