GOP's childish opposition to healthcare reform
Los Angeles Times ^ | January 21, 2011 | David Lazarus

Posted on 01/21/2011 5:02:36 AM PST by Cincinatus' Wife

.....The repeal bill will now likely perish in the Democratic-controlled Senate, and in any case would almost certainly face a presidential veto if it miraculously made it that far. But House Republicans say they'll still obstruct the healthcare law by blocking funds to implement its provisions.

It's hard not to think of a bunch of spoiled children throwing a tantrum because they didn't get their way.

The healthcare reform law, while imperfect, is a done deal. The prudent thing to do at this point is to build on it rather than waste time with fruitless — and needlessly divisive — political grandstanding.

And the Republicans have outdone themselves for misinforming the American people about what the reform law will and will not do.

Aside from scurrilous talk of "death panels" and "socialized medicine," House Republicans have reimagined healthcare reform as a jobs bill, rather than as a long-overdue revamping of how medical treatment is accessed and delivered in a country with about 50 million people lacking insurance coverage.

They titled their legislation the "Repealing the Job-Killing Health Care Law Act." They claimed that 650,000 jobs will be lost....

[snip -- long diatribe about the GOP inventing facts goes here]

Conservatives might have ideological differences with some aspects of the reform law. Those differences should be respected.

But House Republicans have no business attempting to undermine a law just because they disagree with parts of it. It's as if Southern lawmakers had tried to block or repeal the Civil Rights Act after it became law in 1964.

They didn't because they had the maturity to accept the new status quo and move on. Today's Republicans should take a lesson from them.

As Frist said, healthcare reform is the law of the land. Deal with it. Work with it.

Grow up already.

Good point about people not knowing what the Tea Party stands for outside of how the Left portrays Sarah Palin.

One place to begin is to explain to family, friends and neighbors, that it isn’t any one group but an idea born of necessity and why Congress changed hands in 2010 and why all Americans who want their children and grandchildren to live a good life need to vote to remove Democrats locally, statewide and on the national scene.

Tell your family that the Tea Party is against higher taxes and redistribution of their money, and for the right to protect and defend themselves and their property.

Plant the seed of truth. It must be done. It’s uncomfortable for many because the Left has been very effective in saying that anyone who talks like that is a racist, a gun nut and a selfish SOB. People who know you, and who don’t see you that way, will stop and wonder and start asking questions. And the truth will grow and spread.

And there is nothing like the scorn and energy that will come from those who eventually understand that they have been played for fools.

Is it “childish” for me to wish that the Los Angeles Times was 3-ply......so I could use it to wipe my ass daily?

Yes. You'll get greasy printer's ink all over your butt.

At the Suntrade Institute we have regularly identified the Left as JUVENILES, those who need to force their agenda on others because they are not honest enough with themselves to actually produce something worthy of trade. Nancy Pelosi, or this author, David Lazarus, are no less than bawling babies who insist on imposition. Bawling babies. Extortion. The root of crime.

Exactly the opposite of a mature individual facing and living his own decisions, as in his own healthcare, or his own retirement, or his own career, or his own family responsibilities, or his own charity, or his own civilized behavior, etc. That being the burden of freedom.

The Left, how obvious is it?

With the help of this forum and many similar, "they" know many have now come to understand this; and in the nature of the Left, then incorporate and project back their very own malice in what is popularly known as "spin." Unfortunately it takes some intelligence, otherwise known as discrimination, to see it.

We have their number, but we're not sure enough voting Americans do also.

That is why conservatism must be clearly articulated.

[Article] Conservatives might have ideological differences with some aspects of the reform law. Those differences should be respected.

Yeah, we saw how you respect those differences already:

Aside from scurrilous talk of "death panels" and "socialized medicine," ......

What's "scurrilous" about talking about your death panels, Lizardboy, and the fact that you guys have been trying to sneak them into every bill for the last two years without anyone's noticing?

And since when is your idea of putting healthcare into the hands of the Chicago goons NOT "socialized medicine"? Your crowd is still screaming for "single payer".

And the Republicans have outdone themselves for misinforming the American people about what the reform law will and will not do.

How's that stack up to "pass the bill so we can find out what's in it"? Misinforming people like that?

What about the LAT’s childish opposition to hiring reporters who can actually report?

The upshot of this screed is that elected representatives have no business carrying the wishes of their constituents to the sacred halls of government. Just who do they think they are anyway? Lawmakers????

Don’t forget the talking point [LIE] that millions of people with pre-existing conditions are dropped or can’t get insurance.

That is why conservatism must be clearly articulated.

And defined because for decades now, the meaning of "conservative" has been turned on its head.

The House funds things, right? If they don’t fund the thing it’s dead or am I wrong?

Correct. If the House defunds it, it goes away, whatever it is. That includes the entire Department of Energy if the House 'Pubbies decide to grow a backbone.

Also all the "czars", most of Obama's staff, and you name it.

Then Frist can come and be my primary care doctor and accept what Medicare pays, because MINE is retiring rather than practice under DEATHCARE.

I have had 2 ortho docs tell me in the past 7 weeks they are NO longer taking NEW Medicare patients. And I needed my tendonitis treated, and since I will have more bouts of it because I have fibromyalgia I will continue to need an ortho doc. Finally found one. But that doesn’t help with my primary care doc replacement as those are harder to find.

I’m tired of these elitist millionaires messing with my life and healthcare.

Did the idiots not know that when doctors close shop that nurses, receptionist, NP’s, and bookkeepers get FIRED? Then have to go out and try to find a job when they might be in their 50’s, while employers want their experience, just not their age, when they are beginning to need more medical care themselves?

Time to throw "progressive logic" back in their faces. Try this on for size:

The Fugitive Slave Act, while imperfect, is a done deal. The prudent thing to do at this point is to build on it rather than waste time with fruitless — and needlessly divisive — political grandstanding.

. . .

Forced return of fugitive slaves is the law of the land. Deal with it. Work with it. Grow up already.

Nation’s healthcare crisis gets personal

By David Lazarus

I write a lot about healthcare reform. Now it’s personal.

I was diagnosed this past week with diabetes. As of Friday, I was injecting myself with insulin, something I’ll be doing four or five times a day, every day, for the rest of my life. Without the injections, I’ll likely die.

Scared? You’re damn right I’m scared. What’s going to happen to me? What’s going to happen to my family?

http://tinyurl.com/4swk8so

******

The taxpayer’s are supposed to take care of him & his family because he has diabetes?!

I hear ya.

I remember when you could go to the doctor, be treated, pay your bill and leave. And for the big stuff you carried catastrophic insurance.

Then lawyers and politicians decided to screw it all up.
