A teacher at Oakland’s Markham Elementary School has been suspended indefinitely after school officials said a pair of second-graders performed sex acts on each other in class – with the teacher present.
“I think everyone is taken aback over this shocking incident,” Troy Flint, the spokesman for the Oakland Unified School District, told CBS 5 on Thursday. “Of course, it is hard to understand how that could have occurred.”
Flint said the sex acts incident was one of two separate cases under investigation involving the teacher; both incidents occurred last week in the same classroom but he said they didn’t come to the attention of school officials until Wednesday.
In one case, several students apparently took off their clothes and were naked in the classroom. In the second incident, a boy and girl reportedly engaged in oral sex in front of their classmates.
Flint indicated that the suspended teacher, whose name was not released by the school district, was present for both of the incidents.

That is why everyone is so upset. Had it been a boy and a boy this would have been fine. This is Oakland, right across the Bay from San Francisco. This is the California Bay Area, perv central for the U.S.
Waiting for the NEA to file a lawsuit on behalf of the “teacher.”
If this doesn’t influence parents to homeschool, I don’t know what would.

This is so beyond the pale that ordinary people must have difficulty comprehending it. I know I cannot imagine such a thing happening.
2nd graders do not have the physical capacity to perform sex acts. They can only mimic them. Whoever taught them is either guilty of child abuse or of a sexual crime..
A second grade child would only perform these acts if they had personally witnessed them or been coerced into doing them.
This is far from “playing doctor”.
Child social services should investigate their homes.

I have never taught school but have taught Sunday School around this age level (30 kids). There is no way this “teacher” didn’t know what was happening.

I can’t understand why no arrest has been mentioned since the article said this is the 2nd investigation on this teacher.
I don’t understand it either. I know the teachers’ union is powerful, but I can’t believe that they would protect a teacher who was involved in this kind of abomination.
They don’t even have the capacity to THINK of something like sex. The idea that people do something like that never occurs to them.
They do have to see it to know. Any child who displays knowledge of sex like that has been exposed to it.

The teacher’s FIRST action when the kids started disrobing should have been to stop it and contact the principal.
Schools have social workers assigned to them and often *resource* officers (police). And my understanding is that BY LAW teachers are required to report any evidence of suspected abuse to the authorities.
It also does not give their ages. Long, long ago before we became civilized, one could assume that their ages would be in the 7-8 year range with a good degree of accuracy. Now,that we are civilized, they could be in their 20s.
I have also read stories on this forum of teachers receiving lessons, instructions, and guidance in the fine art of fisting and other divant sexual practices.
Perhaps the were giving a show and tell demonstration.
In conclusion, judging by what knowledge they demonestrate outside school, they damn sure don’t learn anything worthwhile in schoolk, so they may as well learn how to screw and perform oral sex acts on each other.
Unless the teacher fostered/taught it. I'd like to know what other offense they are investigating that was mentioned in the article.
There is NO shortage of teachers to fill that slot when she went to jail.

Why is anyone in “let it all hang out” Berkeley surprised by this? Much less appalled? It is a town whose inhabitants don’t believe in limits, or constraining anyone’s personal choice of behavior. How is a teacher to know where a line is drawn, IF it is drawn?

Good question. We have more “conservatives” than one would think who will defend their government education welfare entitlement to their dying breath. Of course, as they will tell you, their schools are “different”. The check is in the mail, too....

The cover up of abuse in public schools is something that needs to be brought to light.
