Will Obama mention gun control in his State of the Union?

Now that Dick Cheney has opened the door to tighter gun restrictions, will President Barack Obama do the same?

That politically dicey question is playing out behind the scenes in the run-up to next week’s State of the Union. In the aftermath of the Tucson shooting of Rep. Gabrielle Giffords and federal Judge John Roll, gun control groups and some Democratic members of Congress are pushing to get the president to directly address the issue of gun violence in his speech to Congress next Tuesday, according to gun control advocates and congressional aides, who asked for anonymity.

Some Democratic party donors are also being urged to weigh in as part of a quiet lobbying effort to prod the president to finally speak out on an issue that he has studiously avoided since taking office, the advocates say.

“There’s a major push to get [Obama] to say something on this,” said Chad Ramsey, legislative director of the Brady Center to Prevent Gun Violence, a leading gun control group. “We’ve been told he will say something, but we’re not sure how strong it will be.”

This is the bottom line from the link you posted...

“If the NRA could pick a candidate, it would undoubtedly be George W. Bush. He has been a strong ally of the organization in Texas. Recent attempts to distance himself are assumed to be merely tactical. Bush follows the standard gun-owner’s line: he wants tougher penalties against gun-toting criminals, but no more regulations for worthy citizens with a pistol by the bed. He places the blame for America’s frequent gun massacres on negligent parents, a “wave of evil” and the culture of violence. As president, he would:
would bring in no new gun controls, except possibly tougher penalties for criminals using guns
opposes mandatory safety locks (but supports voluntary ones)
supports concealed-weapon laws
favors instant background checks (rather than three-day waiting periods) in shops and at gun shows
would restrict lawsuits against gun makers, which he has deterred in Texas

He’ll have to interrupt all the applause to do so. My money’s on more applause than ever before, since they practiced so well in Tucson.

He may mention gun control, but it is more likely that he will duck it.

Well, for me, from my own personal experence, having a “season citizen mother”, who fractured last year her left shoulder, who had to get Physical Therapy, or PT, last year, and she was not a young spring chicken it came down to 4 months altogether. So Rep. Gabby will have a needed period of time to have to have PT.

Not sure what her stance is on gun issues...

Posted elsewhere, she's achieved a D rating from both GOA and NRA.

The democRATS are going to be using the Diamond Method for activist control of public gatherings, where the infiltrate the meeting and create a sense of greater agreement and strength than a small cluster which can be marginalized.

The SOTU address will be an absolute joke.

We know what the state of the union is.... a democRAT created mess. Unemployemnt is at record levels, debt is at record levels, the states, and many cities and municipalities are in fiscal meltdown as well.

And yet that Bolshevik will stand there in the midst of a burning house and scream ALL IS WELL, BE CALM.

We don’t give a damn what Cheney or any other politician thinks about increasing firearms restrictions. The answer is no. Period. End of story.

No.

He’ll probably say something about “We need to rein in violent acts” and let his attack dog media begin hyping Gun Control.

Anyone watching Glenn Beck knows the answer to this question, Cheney is a Rancher. We are the cattle. It is hard to shake that mindset, even for someone as conservative as VP Cheney. May he live to be 120, and his brain find the sharpness of previous days.
