RALEIGH, N.C. -- North Carolina's newest Representative Renee Ellmers said the deadly shooting rampage in Arizona has made her concerned for her own safety.
Ellmers said she has a concealed carry permit and plans to carry a handgun at public events.
However, even in light of the shootings she said she will not support restrictions on certain ammunition.
"I think it was an isolated incident and has more to do with the individual who committed the crime than the actual ammo he was using," said Ellmers.
North Carolina Congressman Health Shuler has also said in recent weeks he will carry a concealed weapon during events. He's been doing so in Washington, D.C. since receiving death threats in 2009.

If Sheriff Numnutz (I didn't know his name is actually an insult in Polish -- it is) had been on the ball and on his game, that drooling moonbat would have had about three sheriff's men on him the minute he walked up to the congresswoman. The instant he drew, he'd have died instantly.
I heard it happen once long, long ago -- 1973 -- in Atlanta. It was 11:00 pm or so, and I was reading in bed when I heard "fireworks" about eight blocks away from the rooming house I lived in. It was the Atlanta police closing out a rapist they'd been working for weeks, who liked to go around pointing a big-frame wheelgun at unaccompanied women and forcing them into his car. He pointed his piece at an undercover policewoman, and it was all she wrote. They shot him about 35 times in two seconds. No more Mr.Rapist.

Not so sure even if Sheriff Knucklehead had had a few deputies around would that have worked...If that had been the plan they should have rounded him up even before he got to the event...But for what, I would not know what they would have charged him with...
