Victim's scars, medical bills replay horrors of chimp attack (sanctuary cover-up)
St. Petersburg Times ^ | January 23, 2011 | Lorri Helfand

Posted on 01/23/2011 3:30:36 AM PST by Cincinatus' Wife

Maturen, 22, had been a volunteer at the sanctuary for more than three years. She recalls the events of Feb. 12 [2010] in great detail.

[snip -- she relates the horror in detail next]

No one from the sanctuary called 911...Just before 11:30 a.m., someone else did call. A man told the dispatcher..."Something's happening over there," he said. "I don't know if one of those apes got loose, but we had to run out of there real fast, and there were women screaming over there."

Deputy Gregory Mason arrived at 11:37 a.m. and found the gates locked....

[snip -- she relates how she was left on the floor of the bathroom while they coaxed the chimp back inside before secreting her off site to a clinic]

Debbie Cobb came to the sanctuary entrance again and told the deputy that Maturen had called a friend to get her. Mason, still outside the gate, called a sergeant, who arrived with another deputy about 12:40 p.m. After that, Cobb let them in.

....About 1 p.m...her husband found Maturen at "Dr. Wendy's" clinic...an advanced registered nurse practitioner....Maturen's injuries were too severe for her to handle. Her office called 911 and Maturen was taken to Helen Ellis.

Mason summed up his report by saying sanctuary workers were "uncooperative and intentionally deceptive and evasive."

It appeared that Maturen "was at the sanctuary with severe and potentially life-threatening injuries while I was outside trying to find out what happened and check on her," Mason wrote.

....She plans to sue the sanctuary.

Sanctuary officials referred questions to lawyer Thomas Dandar, who declined an interview.

The Times sent him seven questions via e-mail. He answered one, about medical expenses, saying, "We attempted to assist in negotiating a reduction in her medical expenses, but she would not cooperate."....

In the days after the attack, Maturen took the blame; now she says she was trying to protect the sanctuary.

Stupid girl.

I’m a little surprised the Sheriff would just stand around outside and take “you can’t come in” for an answer when he was responding to a 911 call.

Not to say the woman wasn't hurt, but her injuries are minor compared to those of a woman in Connecticut who answered a call from a friend when the friend's chimp was "misbehaving". I won't post a picture here because it's very disturbing, but I will post a link if you want to see.

Connecticut chimp attack victim

Chimp ate some of her fingers too

When will some people learn that wild animals will act like wild animals no matter how much we see human characteristics in them

I saw on tv - must be true, that when chimps enter their teen years they get vicious and almost always go for the face.

That was the reason given for Michael Jackson getting rid of his chimp.

On the other hand, that’s not what messed up Jackson’s face.

“A lot of the people who run animal “sanctuaries” like this are complete flakes”

We were at the local PetSmart looking at the fish when we overheard the tattooed/pierce female employee talking sickenly sweet and loudly to a large fish in a tank, “Hello! Hello! You’re my new best friend!” She was serious.

“...Bleeding the vet went to his car, got a hand gun and emptied it into the chimp. PETA was very upset.”

The vet should have reloaded...

Most probably just refuse to believe the truth about Chimpanzees. A lot of people seem to have no clue to the fact that even the biggest and strongest of men simply have no chance against an aggressive mature Chimp. Only the winner of the world’s strongest man contest might be close to matching a chimp for strength but that doesn’t make up for the teeth and the bite pressure.

Probably a piranha - the more dangerous the animal is, the sweeter and more loveable they seem to find it!

(Actually, piranhas are tiny, so it was probably some other vicious species...)

LOL! I truly believe she loved this fish more than any human being. Probably pro-abortion, too.
