The new Republican House majority leader says he doesn't think questions about President Barack Obama's citizenship should play a role in the discussion of policy matters.

Two years into the Obama administration, so-called birthers continue to argue that Obama isn't a natural-born citizen and that he hasn't proved he's constitutionally qualified to be president. Birth records in Hawaii haven't dissuaded them.

House Majority Leader Eric Cantor says he believes Obama is a citizen

The problem is not whether Obama is a citizen, but whether he is a natural born citizen as per the requirements for President in the Constitution.

That stated, with the information that Hawaii had been making birth certificates for people born out of the country, it is all the more reason for Obama to do the responsible thing and put this issue to rest. It is especially incongrous since Presidential Candidate McCain released his long form birth certificate in the course of the 2008 campaign.

...I think the Dems see a Jimmy Carter blowout...coming...

I would ask them against which Republican candidate? We'd like to know. Defeating the Bamster will not a slam dunk for any candidate, given the task of convincing a gullible, dumbed-down, hands-out, living-in-the-here-and-now electorate that he is doing damage to the country long-term.

I watched it. I was hoping and hoping Cantor would say, “well if we could just see the birth certificate then the matter would be settled, wouldn’t it David?”

Perhaps followed up with: "Besides, who wouldn't want to proudly show their certificate of birth as a citizen of this great country? I'd consider it an honor to show mine to anyone who asks".

Yes, and did anyone see the interview?

If so, can you confirm just who lowered the bar of the question to “US citizen” instead of “natural born citizen”?

Sorry but Republicans would be idiots to join the birther movement.

I agree if that means the movement will not stop "the one" from being on the ballot in 2012. It won't. But curious people still want to know, and have the right to know, is the Bamster American-born?

I was traveling through Africa in 2008. They were quite vocal about him being a natural born African. A natural born Kenyan. All the muslims, especially the money traders had pictures posted of their hero in his arabic garb.....

I was entirely with the recently fired Chris Matthews on this.

Those birthers were all whackheads! And it’s about time they were proven to be the bigoted, dumb-ass, moose-hunting, bible-carrying, gun-happy loons they are.

42% of Americans are crazy! Unfortunately because of a thing called democracy in which people vote for all sorts of irrational considerations (oratory, hair-style, hoop-shooting, hope and change) having 42% of the population (all crazy as truthers) mistrusting a fine candidate like Obama was a needless political liability.

So what to do? As the great Chris Matthews suggested: “Come on, Barack, show the Birth Certificate!”

My leg was already tingling in anticipation.

At last the day would come and those evil conservatives would get what they deserved.

Unfortunately Obama was too busy and he ignored Chris Matthews. But then - hope and change! - Governor Abercrombie’s stepped in to take the slack.

Like me he was outraged that anyone could in the year 2011 still mistrust a negro. He, the Governor of Hawaii who was personal friends with Obama’s parents, the Kenyan scholar and his lovely wife, would settle it once and for all.

And once again my leg tingled in eager anticipation.

Those bigoted, dumb-ass, moose-hunting, bible-carrying, gun-happy loons...

Eh? What’s that you said? “Can’t be released without WHOSE consent?”

Why those bigoted, dumb-ass, moose-hunting, bible-carrying, gun-happy loons!

Moral of the story? If Americans allow themselves to be treated this way, then I suggest a Constitutional Amendment REQUIRING the president to be a foreigner!

I’m not predicting it - considering the ability of the Reps to screw things up (aka, McCain) - but I would certainly fear it, if I were a Dem.

As to who - DeMint, that simple - if someone could get him to run.

The article you mentioned:

Hawaii Governor Neil Abercrombie can’t find Obama’s birth certificate (also not exactly sure where Governor’s Mansion is).

Indeed. I was disappointed in Cantor. All he would have had to say was "President Obama could easily end all the speculation. All he has to do is release the Certificate, David."

“House Majority Leader Eric Cantor says he believes Obama is a citizen and that most Americans are beyond that question.”

He is no doubt a big government liberal hack and should be targeted for defeat in the next primary.

“if hillbuzz is right - it isn’t a question of citizenship, but a question of his legal name - and the documents he’s been signing that name on.”

Interesting. I don’t believe that anyone has ever posed the question to him: “Mr. President, why don’t you want to reveal your birth certificate? Is there any particular reason for not wanting to share this with the American people?” Would be nice if Bill O’Reilly would pose that question but I doubt he’ll do it.

On any show worth its merits, the follow on question to Canter should have been: and what do you base you belief upon?

Just once I would like to see someone braced with a question posed in that framwork rather than having to prove a negative, how about proving the positive?

Na, never going to happen.

Media wise, you are right, but they are constitutionally bound by oath and morality............it is there duty to ask and demand proof.

House Majority Leader Eric Cantor says he believes Obama is a citizen and that most Americans are beyond that question.

Quote please? Sheesh. What kind of reporting is this?

Appearing Sunday on NBC's "Meet the Press," Cantor refused to call people who question Obama's citizenship "crazy," saying it's not nice to call anyone crazy. Again, quote please?

The only thing in this "article" that's between quotation marks is "crazy."
