The majority of people realize that we each like our own team and enjoy wearing their colors. And the majority of people do so in jest, teasing one another and having fun on the way. People are tolerant - this dealership wasnt. Time to shop elsewhere for cars. Ah, tolerance. We are all for more tolerance of others bad behavior.

I dont get how anyone can be fired for a sports tie.You don't wear a tie for a team that is a competitor to the team your boss has financial ties to.

But those two teams have the largest nationwide following, outside of the Cowboys. I wonder why that is?...........

You may be the only post-Sanders Lions fan, period.

I agree that the employer was fully within his rights to let the guy go...especially when he was repeatedly warned.
The larger point that is being missed here is how ingrained tribal loyalties are as part of the human experience, whether they are geographic, linguistic, religious, sports teams, etc. This story illustrates in microcosm why any effort at one-world governence is ultimately doomed to failure, although for many, job loss would be the least of their worries.

One this is - the guy was neither a Muslim nor a minority. If he were, this would not have occurred.

"Interestingly, Miss Arkansas (in the Miss America contest) answered that she would rather be considered a citizen of the world rather than a citizen of Arkansas or a citizen of the USA." Young skull full of mush. Just wait 'til she pops a few kids out and gets in fights with parents from another little league team. We'll see how truly global she is.

He is a salesman. He was NOT on the clock. He was of course employed by the firm at the time, but he was not on the clock.
Now in a city full of Bears fans and likely full of salesmen trying to pretend to be Bears fans too, his small bit of counter-marketing, ie marketing to the none Bears niche, might or might not have worked for him. But as the guy at the dealship that offerred him a new job said, good salesmen are hard to find.

Yeah, if you only take into consideration those who actually live within the geographical areas of those two teams. However, you’re leaving out people who live far away from those areas who are fans of either team.

I would say the Bears have the biggest following of any team in American sports. The NFL has the most fans, the NY fanbase is split amongst two teams and L.A. doesn’t have an NFL team. Added to all the transplanted Chicagoans around the country.
