Pelosi turns down offer to sit with Cantor at speech
Washington Examiner ^ | 01/25/11 1:02 PM | Susan Ferrechio

It's bipartisan date night on the floor of the House and invitations are flying. But not all are being accepted.

House Democratic Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi has rejected an invitation from Majority Leader Eric Cantor, R-Va., to sit together at the President's State of the Union Address.

Pelosi moments ago announced that she had already extended an invitation to Rep. Roscoe Bartlett, of Maryland, who also happens to be a Republican.

Cantor was shot down in a tweet from the former speaker.

"I thank @GOPLeader for his #SOTU offer, but I invited my friend Rep. Bartlett from MD yesterday & am pleased he accepted."

Shemay be the coolest girl with the coolest fingernail polish but that’s being mean!!!

What if Cantor stays out late after the pronm and races down Dead Man’s curve and wrecks ‘cause his feelings were hurt!!!!!???????????????

How will she feel then????? What if her Dad grounds her!!!!!!!

OMG! OMG!

ofl. This whole sitting together reminds me of elementary school when the other class got to visit in our room and we had make room for them.

This has put me entirely in the Tea Party movement. Any that sit with the enemy IS the enemy. All others that call it acceptable are also the enemy.

It reminds of the infantile behavior of girls in school when they would have the Sadie Hawkin’s dance around Valentines Day.
Who are you going to ask? Did he say yes? ad nauseaum....

I think Cantor and Bartlett should face off in a public game of Rock Paper Scissors to be sure.

Republicans really deserve all the criticism they get for their stupid behavior. Did the Democrats offer to sit with Republicans in the “back of the bus” where Obama relegated them to before the election? Did the Democrats offer to have a Republican sit next to them when they were scheming behind closed doors to write the healthcare bill? So why this ridiculous gesture? I would only sit next to Pelosi if she promised to resign right after the speech. I would want a ringside seat.

I’m having flashbacks from 7th grade...

Exactly. This reminds me of the junior high dances where the boys would hang out on one side of the gym and the girls on the other.

Some sweaty-palmed boy would finally work up the courage to ask me to dance and we'd both be all nervous and self-conscious...

(Did we really think that was fun? LOL)

This silliness of invitations to sit next to members of the opposing parties being accepted or rejected is far more ridiculous than those early school dances.

I think he knew perfectly well that she wasn’t going to accept it. This was just to show her up.

LOL STOP! I just pictured Bawney Fwank on the red carpet.
Excellent point! They all may as well have Joan Rivers there on the red carpet naming who they are wearing as we all starve and get laid off.

This is shaping up to be a huge disaster. There won’t be near enough supervision considering the rumors of maybe only half of the SC justices planning to attend. Any moms available to chaperone?

Did Rep. Fwwank find a date yet?

It would be nice to see a STOU address where Obama spoke, and the entire Republican side was empty because nobody showed up.
