Putin vows revenge for airport bombing

Russian prime minister Vladimir Putin vowed revenge for a suicide bombing that killed at least 35 people at Russia's busiest airport and underscored the Kremlin's failure to stem a rising tide of attacks.

Talking tough a day after the bombing, Russia's leaders ordered security services to root out the culprits behind the attack, which bore hallmarks of militants fighting for an Islamist state along Russia's southern flank.

"This was an abominable crime in both its senselessness and its cruelty," Mr Putin told a meeting of ministers in Moscow.

"I do not doubt that this crime will be solved and that retribution is inevitable."

There has been no immediate claim of responsibility for Monday's attack at Moscow's Domodedovo airport, but officials say the action bears hallmarks of militants fighting for an Islamist state in the North Caucasus region on Russia's southern frontier.

Russian president Dmitry Medvedev said the airport's management should be held responsible for the attack, as reports emerged that a man and a woman may have been responsible.

Originally the bombing had been described as a suicide attack, but there have been reports the bombs may have gone off early, inadvertently killing the attackers.

Operations have returned to normal at the airport, but there is an obvious increased security presence, with X-ray machines and security checks moved to the airport entrances.

Mr Medvedev made it clear there would be no return to normal for airport management.

"It's obviously a terrorist act that was planned well in advance in order to cause the deaths of as many people as possible," he said.

"What happened shows there were clear security violations," he said, referring to the fact those responsible evaded security to carry the explosives into the airport's arrival hall.

I find myself slapping myself occasionally, wondering if I would appreciate President Putin more than President Obama. They're both commies - but at least Putin isn't one of these "touchy feely" commies.

Then I realize that I'd rather have an incompetent Commie as president than a competent one.

Sounds just like what Obama would have said, doesn’t it? Yes, I am being sarcastic.

So, is Putin willing to commit suicide? This is Russia after all. He’d never be squeamish about murdering a few dozen of his own people to shore up his power.

He’s not that old, but he was KGB.

I’m sure he’s well versed in that old school Soviet style community organizing.

Either way, Putin is bad ass. He is no one to mess with. When he says somethng, he actually plans to follow through on it. He doesn’t care how many bodies get in the way. Sort of like the Terminator...

Too bad he isn’t one of the good guys. But as a bad guy, I respect him.

Now, now - Russia needs to accept that it has upset people. It needs to show the offended people of the world that it means them no harm.

Or at least, that’s what they would tell us...

Probably why no one is claiming responsibility.

After Beslan (the elementary school massacre), Putin took revenge by ending the popular election of provincial governors, arrogating to himself the power to appoint them. Maybe this time, he’ll take revenge by appointing himself President-for-Life.

Putin used his new powers to appoint his corrupt gangster friends as governors, such as the oligarch Roman Abramovich. Putin only went after a handful of criminal oligarchs because he is in cahoots with rival oligarchs! Putin has gotten filthy rich stealing from the Russia people.

He is not vowing “justice” he is vowing revenge. I am tired if bringing terrorists to justice. I want them brought to death.

But didn’t the Russians cut a deal with the Moslems — Russian support for Iran in exchange for an end to terrorist attacks on Russia? If so, the deal is working about as well as the Hitler-Stalin pact did.
