Toyota recalls 1.7 million vehicles as quality woes mount
Reuters ^ | 01/26/2011 | Chris Gallagher

Toyota Motor Corp said it would recall more than 1.7 million vehicles worldwide, bringing its total for recalls to nearly 16 million since late 2009 and dealing a blow to its efforts to restore its reputation for quality.

Although the situation is different from last year, when Toyota attracted intense scrutiny from U.S. safety regulators over unintended acceleration problems that were blamed for dozens of fatalities, the latest recall may make it harder for Toyota to convince investors it has put its quality problems behind it.

Shares of Toyota, the world's top automaker, extended early declines and closed down nearly 2 percent on the Tokyo Stock Exchange after the announcement.

We have a Toyota 4 wheel drive pickup, 300K miles. We freshened to motor up and decked the head at 250K. Just an off-road truck now. We’ve broken about everything on it at one time or another, but that is hardly Toyota’s fault. We could still sell it for $3,000. Off-roaders love them.

All car manufacturers have recalls, but Leftist Pravda rags like R00ters only report on those of non-union Toyota, and never report those of Goobermint Motors cars. No no no.
Notice how the Left reports on Sarah Palin and Michele Bachmann as compared to Othuggo or any Demonkat politician for comparison of their bias. Any questions?

We had a Toyota Highlander, ran it up to 87K with NO repairs at all, only maintenance, and sold it to a friend with great confidence. We bought a used Toyota 4Runner we drive now, also ultra reliable. I wouldn’t buy anything else but a Toyota. What R00ters, the WaPost, et al report means nothing to me.

Read the annual reliability ratings of Toyotas as compared to Goobermint Motors cars in Consumer Reports — those are compiled from thousands of consumer submissions, not from CR staff. Toyota is one of the lowest maintenance vehicles you can buy.

Epic Top Gear episode: They tried to destroy a Toyota pickup by crashing it, burning it, drowning it, and finally putting it on the roof of a condemned high rise building that was then blown up.

Couldn’t kill it, no matter what they did, it always came back to life. Amazing.

Ours is a 1993. It has throttle body fuel injection. The only thing I have ever seen kill the motor is a bad mass air flow sensor. They are just so simple and elegantly engineered.

What can we expect from Reuters Local 1369, EXCEPT a "friendly" reminder to all that Toyota, and ANY other Foreign car company is making CRAP compared to the "wonderful" products their union buddies make for Government Motors?

I wouldn't buy a vehicle made by Socialist U.S. union thugs if you PAID me to buy one.

I WILL buy a vehicle made by NON-union workers, and made in the South or Southwest.

I bught my first Toyota 4 years ago it was used, had 35,000 miles on it then.

It has 108,000 miles on it now and all IO have done is change the oil regularly put new spark plugs in it at 100,000 miles.

My wifes Buick Roadmaster from 1995 has 162,000 miles on it now.I had to replace the battery once. Great car, 26 mpg on the highway rides like a dream, has enough power to tow the world. GM decided not to build them any more.

I had 3 Astro vans all went to 200,000 miles never cost me anything except normal replacements . GM decided not to make them any more.

“I had 3 Astro vans all went to 200,000 miles never cost me anything except normal replacements .”

I had one of the early ones. POS! 5 transmissions in 80,000 miles. And I’m an easy goin’ driver. The Astro van’s first tranny failure was at 11,000 miles. GM had some deal that I had to pay the first $100 for any major repairs. After the 4th tranny repair, I met the mechanic in a bar. He advised me there was a design flaw, and to go to the dealer screamin’. I did. They put in a new tranny, and I sold that dog. Bought a big Ford van.
The only problem I’ve had with my 2001 Highlander has been the replacement of all 3 oxy sensors. Sold my other car last Summer cuz I just wasn’t drivin’ it much. ‘91 LS 400. Great car!

The challenger, believe it or not, is not Honda, but Ford Motor Company.

My last two (leased) vehicles were Jeeps. They took the bailout. Ford did not. I just picked up a 2011 Escape last Saturday.

The quality matches or exceeds the Hondas I had before the Jeeps; time will tell for how long.

Ford Motor Company has done what GM has not done. It has produced a menu of vehicles suited to consumer demand. It could have stayed with the Mustang & “F” series trucks, but it elected to serve the market demand, hence the Fusion the “new” Taurus, the Escape, etc. And...the quality is there as well as reliablity. Ford now has a “great menu” of good cars across the board. GM, on the other hand succcumbed to the Obamabots and will take a royal beating on the “Volt”!!! The Camaro is far short from what it should have been. When I remember the “old” Camaro lineup of “hot” cars, these new ones make me sick!!! Free enterprise rules, Obama handouts don’t!!!

The article suggests both.
