Why are Americans such wusses? Threaten the Greeks with job losses and benefit cuts and they tie up Athens, but take away Americans' jobs, 401(k)s, even their homes, and they pretty much roll over. Tell British students that their tuition is about to go up and they take to the streets; American students just amp up their doses of Prozac.
The question has been raised many times in the last few years, by a variety of scholars and commentators -- this one included -- but when the eminent social scientist Frances Fox Piven brought it up at the end of December in an essay titled "Mobilizing the Jobless," all hell broke loose. An editor of Glenn Beck's website, theblaze.com, posted a piece sporting the specious headline "Frances Fox Piven Rings in the New Year by Calling for Violent Revolution," and, just two weeks before the Tucson shootings, the death threats started flying. Many of the most provocative comments have been removed from the site's comment section, but at one time they included such charming posts as: "Bring it on biotch [sic]. we're armed to the teeth." Or: "We're all for violence and change, Francis [sic]. Where do your loved ones live?"
If the dozens of Beck fans rhetorically brandishing their weapons at Piven were all CEOs, bankers, hedge fund operators and so forth -- i.e., the kind of people who have the most to lose from mass protests by the unemployed -- all this might make more sense. But somehow, and I may be naive about these things, it's hard to imagine a multimillionaire suggesting that "folks buy battle carbines with folding or collapseable [sic] stocks and 16[-inch] barrels so they can be more easily hidden under jackets and such.

Nonetheless, it’s a very important question. I have painfully observed this phenominon as well.
Taxed to death? Just work harder and don’t complain.
Freedoms mthodically taken away? Don’t worry, the big game is on next week.
Government ammassing more conrol over everyday life? Can’t do anything about it so might as well boil slowly to death.
This passivity is endemic. NO ONE wants to stand up and be counted. Sure, we may donate a few buck here and there, and; the highly motivated might attend a rally somewhere, but that’s about it.
So we all slow boil to death.

people have the mistaken notion that it’s the government’s job to protect their delicate sinsitivities- we’ve goen from a govenrment formed to protect our civil rights, to one that has forcefully taken on the ‘job’ of protecting the left’s delicate ears against the evil right, and it’s just getting worse with all this ‘let’s be civil’ crap coming from the left- for two decades (and infact even longer)- they, the rats, have been them ost viscious, venomous freaks around, but now that they have control, all of a sudden, there’s a ‘pressing need’ for ‘everyone to get along’- translation= ‘If you dissagree with us, you’re not beign civil’
America’s spirit of individualism died a long time ago- and we’ve become a pansy state of pacificists who feel it’s the govenrtment/;s job to protect us when gthe cupboards run bare- our late relatives arwe turning in their graves at the sissification of htis once great nation
It neglects the fact that when you've abused lazy people and hooked them on largesse, only for their vote, mind you, they will riot and take up arms at the drop of the mere mention of taking their freebies away. It is precisely because they don't have anything of substantive value to lose - very unlike most rational conservative people. For them, it will take a lot to rouse them. Threaten the lives of their loved ones, their children and their futures and then see the holy hell that gets unleashed.
I believe that Barbara Ehren(Third)reich wants us to be “One people under one Leader”.
Mass protests are always third world socialistic - not conservative.
Similarly, when Republicans had a massive advantage in raising money for campaigns, Democrats wailed to high heaven about the absolute EVIL of money in politics and how it was corrupting the system. Republicans got suckered and passed the ham-stringing CFR. Then, when Obama came along, this Democrat turned down public financing and raised $750 million of that formerly decried evil money.
Anybody see a pattern here?

Well, that’s one way to totally distort the facts and twist the details to make the world appear as you want it. Eventually, they’ll be able to justify almost anything. I hope they won’t be surprised when not everyone will be docile and passive as they attempt to assert their “brave new world” vision.
This year at the SOTU address, we had dozens of members of Congress who chose bipartisan seating showing the American viewers that in fact the US Congress is now a one party membership. Yes, that’s what I said. The US Congress is a ONE PARTY membership. ONE PARTY membership is Communist Party.
How long will it take before the rest of the nation, and the supposedly conservative media recognizes that the Republic has become a memory. A subject for the history books.
Personally I like the guillotine or firing squad method to sterilize an oppressive government
