GOP House Speaker John Boehner and independent Sen. Joe Lieberman introduced legislation Wednesday to revive a school voucher program for District of Columbia students nearly two years after Congress began phasing it out.
In a statement Wednesday, Boehner said the D.C. program is a model that can work well in other cities and should be the starting point of any new bipartisan education reform legislation developed with President Barack Obama's administration.

It is a good idea of course, but most residents of DC will simply vote for people who will take it away again.
Should be for the entire country and administered by the States after the Dept. of Education is shut down.

Yes, he needs to push this at the national level. For every federal dollar spent on public schools (which I am against anyway but there is no stopping that train) a dollar should go to private school vouchers. GWB sold us out with his tiny DC pilot program as part of NCLB.
This is where we need Bachmann, Palin, Beck, Rush as well as other conservative lighting rods calling Obama out personally for cutting this pilot program for poor DC kids while his kids went to the SAME private DC private schools at taxpayer expense.
You might be missing the point. This is about separating poor minority kids from socialist public school teachers and public schools. Public schools. especially city public schools are socialist training factories. Vouchers should only pay a fraction of tuition costs to separate the ambitious from ‘the sheep’ who go home to liberal MTV as parents and only show up at school for the free meals.
WE need minority kids who grow up thinking "My parents and I made me a success" not "Obama made me a success".
Boob bait for conservatives. Vote for no national money with out liberty and vouchers. Nationwide. Just like they vote to force seat belts or no highway money.

Good idea, maybe the little DC voucher winners can ride the school bus to Sidwell with Sasha and Malia- they got salad bars!
Exactly. The District residents voted for Obama and he took away the vouchers.
Come next election they will vote for him again and Boehner and the Republican party will not be given a thought.
I agree with you, but Boehner is at least doing the right things for now. He is at least getting off to a good start with his priorities. That is a good sign.
We're dying as a nation, and vouchers in DC are a hood ornament on the lead car in the funeral procession.
Boohooner needs to follow Rand Paul's lead, and start slashing hundreds of billions in spending NOW.
