DEVELOPING: Loud explosions and gunfire were heard in the Egyptian capital of Cairo Friday, as protesters demanding the removal of President Hosni Mubarak defied a curfew, Al Jazeera reported. Egyptian television reports the ruling party headquarters in Cairo are on fire.
WashingtonPost: Clinton: We urge #Egypt authorities to allow peaceful protest, reverse unprecedented steps it has taken to cut off communications less than 20 seconds ago
Biden said there’s nothing to be concerned about, and Clintoon is up there saying that Mubarak should let them protest. Make up your damn minds!
Our leaders, both here and abroad, are quaking in their boots. Popular uprising is coming, and it’s starting in the Mideast.
Hiya SE...I posted thebelow on another thread but I’ll paste here for more thought.
Ive read up a bit on this and just listened to John Bolton, who I respect.
Lookit, I seriously understand that the alternative to Muburak, as it is currently being alleged, would be a more draconian regime called the Muslim Brotherhood.
However....Muburaks been dictator of Egypt for 19 years now. He hasnt done the country much good at all.
Maybe its the American in me, but I truly believe that all people just want to be free. Humans, no matter the religion, race or creed, want to live their lives, be with and raise their families, pursue their happiness, without some damn dictator/despot running their lives. Yes, I believe this.
Not long ago the poor Iranian people were out rioting as they too wanted freedom from the oppression by those sons of camels who so often take over these countries controlled by that oppressive religion, Islam.
Im on the side of the Egyptian public on this one. I think a guy thats been so corrupt, nasty and mean as Muburak for nineteen years, well I think its time for him to go.
And never mind, for just a minute here, that America might be better served with Muburak still in charge in that hes secular and friendly with Israel. I dont like dictators and the thought of being ruled by one for so many years just rubs me wrong.
If these Egyptians are sucessful at throwing over Muburak and they put the Muslim Brotherhood in charge, effectly replacing one form of oppression with another, well then shame the hell on them.
But I cant get beyond that this Muburak guys been around so long and its time for him to step down. Who wants to spend their lives dominated by some a**hole whose credentials are what, exactly?
Please post your links here so we can keep up..
Also- if anyone has Bahbah’s old Long War ping list- please freepmail me or Uncle Ike with it- I misplaced it.
this is hugh and about to become series
Let’s hope this spreads througout the middle east. This is what happens when one follows Obama’s lead and cozies up to Islamic nutjobs and moderates.
If we can see all middle eastern islamic majority countries begin to unravel we can see real chaos for the next several years.
Time for Obama the Messiah to step up and calm the world.
peaceful protests dont work in the middle east, they get squashed, the protestors get blackbagged and disappear, unfortunately against dictators you have to be violent and typical this all kicks off when we have the biggest pansy ass in the white house ever.

Egypt is the second biggest recipient of US aid money. Geneva bankers are on alert.
I didn’t know that Egypt had a Tea Party.....

A “Live Thread” is just what we need - it’s ridiculous to have at least three separate threads started for each ‘breaking development’.....
In Iran in 1979 most people were truly against the Shah and thought that overthrowing him would result in freedom and democracy. They were naive. Yes Mubarak is a pig, but those who are leading the overthrow are fooling the public into thinking they will bring freedom to Egypt.
Actually, Obama’s first two years were defined by domestic mismanagement, his next two could be defined by international problems stemming from his weak foreign policy...just like Jimmy carter!
but Obama tried to calm them yesterday, and said “violence is never answer”.... ( our violence in WWII sure was the correct answer to Germany) ... but never mind..
if only those rioters in Egypt would just listen to Obama.
They have good reason to be. After all, THEY are the ones responisble for the economic collapse around the world. Ignoring the will of the people, trampling on human rights, etc, etc, etc.
But then again, every country deserves the government they have. Including us.
Good thinking. Pass the popcorn
I am glad you posted this thread. This whole thing is freaking me out.
Just remember what happened in Iran. Do not for one minute make the mistake of thinking that the power behind these people wants democracy. That was the claim in Iran, too, and that didn’t work out well—for anyone.
I’m always quick to point out that the Civil War was NOT popular and fought by only 30% of the population at the time.
And then there’s this:

TUNIS (Reuters) Islamists marched through central Tunis on Friday, demanding religious freedom, while police fired teargas at anti-government protesters who have camped out around the prime minister’s office.
The march by about 200 people was the first significant Islamist protest since the fall of president Zine al-Abidine Ben Ali, who ran a strictly secular state in which Islamists were often jailed or forced into exile.
Some carried placards reading: “We want freedom for the hijab, the niqab and the beard.”
Our Islamic Marxist in Chief has sat on his hands while Egypt, the Sudan and Tunisia fall apart to fundamentalists within a week
From Aljazeera site:
“Unfortunately due to circumstances beyond our control, Al Jazeera is no longer available via the broadband services Jalipo and VDC.”
al Jazeera report:
Military moving into Suez and Alexandria
Army being greeted with cheers and thumbs-up jestures.
Mubarak isn’t a saint thats for sure.
From what I heard on Fox this morning the Muslim Brotherhood is behind these protests and the effort to overthrown Mubarak. They are muslim fundamentalists who have been using imams and the mosques to brainwash the younger population. Very similar to the method used in Iran to overthrow the Shah.
Mubarak is about to run like an Egyptian.
I think he should fly over right now and walk the streets calming the people.
I’ll pay for the fuel.
Good thinking, thanks SE Mom!
the muslim brotherhood is involved with these riots and if they take over then it is not good for Israel or us but I see the bozo the clown admin is quick to tell the Govt to stop and yet when those in Iran were up in arms there was crickets.
Seems bozo the clown has no problem with the muslim brotherhood doing riots but does have a problem with those in Iran wanting to get rid of an oppressive muslims Govt
and yet again our corrupt biased propaganda media covers for their messiah again
” defined by international problems stemming from his weak foreign policy... “
OT - but, lest we succumb to tunnel-vision, we need to keep one eye on the Kims and NK - who just might see an opportunity for mischief during a growing Mideast Crisis....
And, then there’s always Nuclear-armed Pakistan, whose Government has gotten progressively more unstable, of late....
Could be a “Perfect Storm” a-brewin’.....
On Drudge as well:
Explosions and gunfire heard
Unfortunately people like Mubarak and Ben Ali have made this situation, they have been ripping the countries off for years while people live in poverty and then of course the people turn to the one they have left religion who uses them and then it all eventually boils over.
When you support dictatorial regimes sooner or later the grip fails and the people revolt, it aint pretty and we’ve seen it all before and who do we have....Obama, the biggest wimp around.
This could set back the middle east decades.
I disagree with Biden, this IS a BIG F~@&!NG Deal.
Remember when those in Iran rioted against tyranny and their islamic Govt?
Obama said nothing about the Govt, now today we have riots led by the muslim brotherhood and obama says the Govt should tone it down.
Just when will most American Jews wake up?
Thank you or doing this. Hopefully, it will be easier to find news now if it is all in one place.
Thank you!! I’ve been trying to follow the news.
Of course, here in the real world the effects of an Egyptian Islamic state would not be confined to Egypt... at the very least, it would shut down the Suez Canal, and probably destabilize the entire region (Jordan is also apparently experiencing unrest). The Saudis are probably beginning to shift nervously in their seats, too.
Not too sure I like the idea of the entire Middle East being in the clutches of militant Islamic rulers....
And when they begin to threaten Israel, we have to consider the likelihood that the Israelis will start popping nukes if things start looking really bad.
Shame the hell on us, if we don't have a clear-headed approach to dealing with this situation.
And shame the hell on us for electing an incompetent like Barack Obama to the presidency.
The commodity markets are reacting.
GOLD is up $40 off its morning lows.
OIL is up $4.50 off its morning lows.
Camel dung is about to hit the fan.
Fill up your gas tank and trade your paper money for gold.
Wikileaks was the first domino, I hope they’re happy when the entire Middle East goes up in flames.
Yes, it is spotty, to be expected really...
Okay, I’m starting to get freaked out...
Don’t think for one minute this is good news for us.
If this works for the rioters do you know who will take power?
The muslims brotherhood which is not good for us or Israel.
Yes I know the corrupt biased media is not telling all the story on this and obama is telling the Govt there to tone it down but funny how he never told the Iranian Govt to tone it down.
