Gov. Jerry Brown Compares California to Egypt in State of the State Address

Published February 01, 2011 | FoxNews.com

Newly elected Gov. Jerry Brown on Monday blasted opponents of his plan to reduce California's massive deficit by comparing their opposition to a referendum on proposed tax increases to oppression in Egypt and Tunisia.

"When democratic ideals and calls for the right to vote are stirring the imagination of young people in Egypt and Tunisia and other parts of the world, we in California can't say now is the time to block a vote of the people," the Democrat said in his first State of the State speech since being elected in November to a third term as California's chief executive.

Brown, who previously served two terms as governor beginning in 1975, has proposed a special election in June to let voters choose whether to extend higher vehicle fees and sales and income taxes to help balance a $25 billion deficit, the largest state deficit in the nation. The $12.5 billion in budget cuts would be paired with temporary extension of current taxes and a realignment of government that requires a vote before it could become effective.

California like Egypt in the sense that it is a dictatorship, perhaps?

I would have said Greece, but if the Governor wants to be the Mubarak of California, so be it.

My point exactly. Such is the nature of a metastatic tumor; it spreads....

I saw the destruction of Seattle by ex-Cali liberals in the 1990s who came up here in mass. They arrived here bitching about the crime, illegals, taxes, anti-family, etc... And what do they do when they arrive? They immediatly start voting for only moonbat liberal democrats whose policies were exactly the reason California has become such a cesspool. So now it's become a one party state with massive budget deficits and out of control taxes just like California.

Yes sir, the old liberal "you asked for it, people!" gambit.

No increase in taxes? So you do not want police, fire, and first responder protection then so be it! OK, citizens, you have spoken.

Egypt will happen all over California and thousands of women and children will be killed everyday!

Governor Brown is a true Democrat. He says that he will honor California citizens' desire to avoid "temporary" increased taxes -- but don't blame him for the unspeakable horrors citizens are about to suffer.

Sorry to burst your bubble, but Seattle was known as the northern San Francisco long before the mid ‘90s. I was in NW Washington in the mid 80s and it was VERY liberal even then.

Gov. Jerry Brown Compares California to Egypt in State of the State Address

Could this be that ole Jer had a self-fulfilling prophesy
and the people of CA will rise up against him because of his
tax and spend tactics for trying to pull CA out of the morass she's in!?

My god. I've just had an epiphany
Jerry Brown is right.
He needs to take as much money from the people who earn money and give it to those who don't so they do not riot and remove him from his cushy job!
