Residents attend York meeting carrying guns By EMILY OPILO

York, PA - At least half a dozen York and York County residents carried guns to York City Council Tuesday in a show of support for the right to bring weapons to municipal meetings.
Councilwoman Toni Smith has advocated for a gun ban at the council's meetings, which have been regularly attended by at least one city resident openly carrying a firearm. Smith was told by city solicitor Don Hoyt at a meeting last month that the state prohibits such a ban, and she has not formally proposed any such measure.
At Tuesday's meeting, gun owners sat scattered across council chambers, some with holstered weapons and others with ammunition strapped to their belts. Some of the owners stepped forward to cite passages from state law and the U.S. Constitution in support of the right to bear firearms.
Andy Edmonds, a North Codorus Township resident and co-founder of the Hanover Tea Party Patriots, said passing a gun ban in spite of the law would knowingly impede the right of residents to lawfully carry a gun. That is a misdemeanor and treason, he said.
"My fear was that then if the law restricts it, it would have to go to the state level," he said. " If it affects the state level it would have to go to more than just York City, it affects Hanover, it affects Jefferson, everywhere."
City resident Steve Young, who regularly attends meetings with a gun, also addressed council.
"As much as I'm being singled out and called out for doing nothing wrong, I want to say that I am just doing my job," he said. "The attacks on the members of the public need to stop."
Most council meetings are attended by one York City Police officer. At least two officers were present during Tuesday's meeting.
Smith addressed the group before the meeting closed, thanking them for their attendance.
"We might disagree on some things, but I would like to invite you to come back," she said. "I met some of you individually, and you were very nice people. I hope you think the same thing about me."
York, Pennsylvania, was the seat of the Contintental Congress from September 1777 until June of 1778.
Many of the residents have NOT forgotten the patriotism of the forebearer and those who sojourned among them.
By contrast, Councilwoman Smith is a second generation American. Her Italian born parents were Communists in the old country.
Ping.
That's odd...the article doesn't mention whether or not they were carrying firearms.
Indeed. Lieutenant Heinlein was right on the money.
These men took heed of that advice and stopped a slippery slope in its tracks.
Toni Smith has used “guns” as an issue for all of her political career to accolades of approval.
Twenty years ago she pushed a gun buyback scheme when people began to worry about crime in the city.
Like a typical politician, she puts up a straw man to divert people’s attention away from the real problem, the criminals getting away with crime.
Last night, she got a response that called her bluff.
Kudos to all who showed up to show her up.
she said, “I met some of you individually, and you were very nice people. I hope you think the same thing about me.”
Like most liberals she is dellusional.

SHE grew up in Italy and was raised in a nunnery.
What the hell do some foreigners know about America and American history and tradition? Probably less than most Americans and THAT says a lot!
She should go back to Italy - and stay there!
Smith was told by city solicitor Don Hoyt at a meeting last month that the state prohibits such a ban, and she has not formally proposed any such measure.
That should be the end of it but all to frequently it is not.
Big city politicians all too frequently will enact gun laws in defiance of the state law and enforce them on the law abiding citizens until they are taken to court and made fools of and cost their city huge sums of money in punitive damages and court cost/ lawyer fees.
And all too frequently they will waste the tax payers money in taking these cases to the State Supreme Court.
Well what the heck it isnt their money and it make them feel important. And those little people need to be kept in their place.
So how long before she announces her candidacy for president of the United States?
Oh, isn't that nice? And still agitating and propagandizing together. "The family that preys together ......"
Wonder if she informed on her parents to KGB and got them a stretch in the Gulag?
Amen! And to her Communist parents, "Welcome to America -- eat your heart out, Bolshevist maggots!"
Oh, and guess what, Tony? I've got Russian guns. My guns are more Communist than you are. Nyaaah!
I ran into Toni Smith, one time when she had a visitor from Italy with her. She said he didn’t understand some things about the US, and I suspect that these were her ideas, since I couldn’t confirm it with the visitor, who spoke no English.
She said that he couldn’t understand why he couldn’t get a glass of wine at McDonalds, and why people could get guns so easily, and I forget what the third problem was.
I should have told her that the first was because of big government types like her, and that said big governmernt types hadn’t gotten around to the second.
What I said was that if this was such a terrible country, she, and her guest were free to return to Italy.
Smith would be right at home in Bloombug and the Dems New York.
Good point. Why not? Obama did it, and he may not even have been naturalized!
"We might disagree on some things, but I would like to invite you to come back," she said. "I met some of you individually, and you were very nice people. I hope you think the same thing about me."
An armed society is a polite society.
