Egypt Protests Turn Violent (Egyptians fear chaos if Mubarak steps down immediately)
ABC News ^ | 2/2/2011 | CHRISTIANE AMANPOUR

Posted on 02/02/2011 11:22:21 AM PST by Qbert

We just got back to the hotel after trying to film on the bridge into Tahrir Square.

An angry mob surrounded us and chased us into the car shouting that they hate America. They kicked in the car doors and broke our windshield as we drove away.

[Snip]

In Tahrir Square, protestors say two things. Some say that President Hosni Mubarak's announcement Tuesday night that he will not seek reelection is not enough and that he has got to go now. Others say that although they have protested against him, they want him to leave in an orderly fashion, with dignity.

A majority, it seems, are concerned that if he leaves quickly, the economy and institutions could collapse, resulting in an explosion of crime and violence.

And so the overwhelming feeling on the street is one of fear, of how this is now going to go. If Mubarak leaves precipitously, there could be real chaos.

Mubarak's party has sent a message on state TV regarding moves to restore law and order.

The army, in a new statement on television, is urging the protestors to go home now, "for the love of Egypt."

Looks like POTUS' speech last night didn't help matters any...

The 3 AM call was a wrong number.

Couldn’t have happened to a more appropriate enemy of this country.

Of course I deplore violence and wouldn’t want to see anyone come to harm, but ... the thought of the unbearably smug and anti-American Christiane Amanpour being chased down the street by a bunch of enraged Egyptians brings a smile to my face.

This is such BS. I do not believe a word from C Amanpour and Anderson Cooper. they are liars and stooges for the islamists.

This is being setup for Obama to save the day and win The Nobel Peace Prize again. He should win it every month. Maybe he can make the cover of Time twice a month as Muslim of the Year.

Christiane Amanpour is just as likely to lead the charge.

“A majority, it seems, are concerned that if he leaves quickly, the economy and institutions could collapse, resulting in an explosion of crime and violence.”

Exactly what will happen. I’m sure that the good folks in Egypt who would like adequate food, clothing, and a vote wish that Obama and his cronies would quit calling for Mubarak’s immediate departure.

These protests were violent from the start.

That's why the cops quit.

Amanpour was expecting red carpets and rose petals because she hates America, too. Sorry, B, the Egyptians don't much care for you either.

I just turned on TV briefly to get updates, and it seems they pro-gov’t forces have barricaded the opposition(I hesitate to call them pro-democracy like the MSM is) into a small area. Interesting part...some/most of the reporters seem to be inside the barricade. They are claiming intimidation by the pro-Mubarak forces that they’re calling “thugs”...yet they haven’t explained how they identify one group of protestors from another. They’ve already said the “street gangs” are in plain clothes. So how do they know these “gangs of thugs” are pro-Mubarak would be my first question...is it just because they are anti-press?

Maybe it’s wishful thinking on my part, but I read this and see a tiny glimmer of hope that maybe now she realizes what we’re really up against after she was personally attacked. Before this, she would’ve sided with the mob, hands down.

But then again, you could be right about the setup.

If true, then the angry mob was chasing the wrong person.

yet they haven’t explained how they identify one group of protestors from another.

Those stirring up the most trouble have been spotted wearing T shirts that read: "Together We Deprive"

The cops may have been behind some of the violence, to prompt a crackdown. Kinda like Hitler’s SA.

"the thought of the unbearably smug and anti-American Christiane Amanpour being chased down the street by a bunch of enraged Egyptians brings a smile to my face. "

What did Americans do that even she is hated. In spite of all the foreign aid we dish out, money doesn't buy us love.

Interesting.

I think they know that they are “pro-Mubarak” the same way they “knew” those eeeevil “Tea Baggers said the N-word and spit on black Congressmen”...

Rule #1 about anyone on TV - they lie. Probably why Rush did not want to do it anymore.

Probably why Drudge and Savage had a big blow up with Fox.
Drudge showed an abortion picture and got the immediate boot. He is very anti-abortion. Savage talked about the “gay mafia” and got the axe.

I see wagging the dog going on....my concern is what is going on in our nation and in Washington right now that Obama and the media doesn’t want us to pay attention to....the Abercrombie birther issue or the Obamacare slapdown in the courts?
