CNN's Anderson Cooper, several other journalists, attacked amid Egypt protests

CNN anchor Anderson Cooper and his crew were attacked Wednesday by an angry mob of pro-government supporters as chaos ensued and the Egyptian goverment unraveled.

"Cooper said he was punched 10 times in the head as a pro-Mubarak mob surrounded him and his crew trying to cover demonstration," CNN producer Steve Brusk tweeted.

The network reported that even though attackers "pushed and shoved the CNN crew" in Tahrir Square in Cairo, no one was seriously hurt.

Cooper later tweeted, "Got roughed up by thugs in pro-Mubarak crowd..punched and kicked repeatedly. Had to escape. Safe now." He had previously mentioned that he had been awake for four days in a row.

Cooper was one of several foreign correspondents who reported being attacked while covering the protests.

Cooper tweeted after his crew made it to safety.

FOX Business Network correspondent Ashley Webster, also reporting live from Cairo, tweeted, "Security burst into our hotel room and forced our camera off the balcony shouting 'they're going to kill us!!'"

Two Associated Press journalists were also reportedly roughed up while covering the protests and watchdog group The International Press Institute reported Danish, Romanian and Spanish reporters had also been attacked.

The organization, which promotes global press freedom, condemned targeted attacks on journalists Wednesday and tweeted a steady stream of reported incidents of violence against reporters on its Twitter feed @globalfreemedia.

The violence comes as several thousand supporters of President Hosni Mubarak - some reportedly wielding whips while riding on horses and camels - attacked anti-government demonstrators after more than a week of protests.

The anti-Mubarak demonstrators were riled up after the Egyptian president went on national television on Tuesday and rejected demands that he resign immediately. He resolved to serve out the remaining seven months of his term.

“pushed and shoved the CNN crew”

This is an attack?

They all shoulda stayed home. What do they expect by ‘covering’ 11th century tribes at war with one another?

Hilarious. Total propaganda and news hype. They have video and still cameras up the ying yang plus cell phone cameras with no evidence of “beatings.” They would photoshop proof anyway.

TV and the media are such liars. Tucson was the story to distract us from Obama destroying America. Egypt is the new story.

lol what do they expect? Those people can see how one sided the mainstream has been in this. Lucky they weren’t killed they probably would be by the other side if the situation were reversed and they gave pro Mubarak coverage.

They found his decision to only wear camel chaps and vest a bit offensive.

No sympathy here for news whores of any organization. Common sense used to prevail when more sane people were running this world. Sound bites, hype, administration dogma and propaganda from ultra leftist elites won’t protect them from the simple man on the street that is just plain tired of this shit.

So....Amanpour and Cooper were safe among the ANTI-government protestors, but have been attacked by the PRO-Mubarak government protestors?

Notice Cooper claims it was a “pro-Mubarak” crowd that attacked him. He wouldn't dare admit it was Islamic extremists who roughed him up. That wouldn't fit the leftist meme.

Maybe they’ve seen his show, that would be enough to make anybody punch him.

The media could be caught in the middle of 500 pre teen female fans chasing the Jonas brothers limousine and then the media would report that they were ‘attacked viciously’ by a bunch of right winged Sarah Palin supporters.

Obviously, the crowd was enraged against Mainstream Journalists by harsh, uncivil rhetoric coming from Sarah Palin, Rush Limbaugh, and the Tea Party.
