This blog post from Accuweather was posted this morning. He covers the cold blast coming Sunday night. Almost the entire country will be Arctic by Thursday. Gonna look like the Ground Hog was right however on Saturday and Sunday, but just wait until late Sunday night.

In Spite of Phil's Forecast, It's Not Warming Just Yet

"...it’s not real funny to those of us who are iced in and to the farmers in the Rio Grande Valley."

We lived thru it in 83 and 87. This is the last grove left on the family farm. We already know we're losing the fruit thats left ... we're just worried we'll lose the trees as well. We all work at different non-farm jobs so the Lord will see this one thru as He always has. Pray for a warming trend. ;o)

While on the other hand the US is shipping electricity to Mexico via a line from Hoover Dam through Arizona and into Sonora. Pull the plug!

Scroogie Mexico—if we sent the illegals back there Tx would have plenty of its own energy to go around.

Beautiful trees.

Here’s hoping it’s quick and short, and that the damage isn’t too extensive. At least it’s not an early blast, so maybe they’ve had time to harden off a bit?

Pulling for you.

We dodged the ice an deep snow as the 50 mph winds an -9 temps made for 4 days of severe wind chill for the panhandle. Been in worse around the world an northern states while in the service but this was chilly for a few days. More coming for us Saturday through next Thursday. Prayers up for your orchard....

Stay warm...

I understand your frozen gas pipe lines. Texas brags about wind power. I also use a kerosene heater for electrical power outages. I do not rely on the municipal utilities and their city workers. I would have a wood heat stove if I wasn't trapped in a city with rules. Some radio shows have been talking about the Texas wind power today.

Thanks Jedidah. They’ve been there since 1954. Spent many a long day on a tractor and irrigating and trimming trees and picking fruit. Sweetest oranges in the area. Good family fun!

It seems the compressor stations can’t compress the gas w/o electricity.

You can thank the EPA for that. The natural gas pipeline industry traditionally used natural gas engines or turbines as pipeline compressor drives. However, with the tightening of emission regulations, it became much more attractive to use electric compressor drives about five to ten years ago!!!

so, time to be self reliant and make our own.
If I'm not mistaken that's exactly what Texas does. (some of) Their electricity is "deregulated" which means the generation, the wires (transmission) and even the meter readers are all separate companies.

It wasn't long ago during a multi-state outage they were pounding their chests bragging about having their own grid...How's that working out for you now Texas?

Well, New Mexico is doing its part to help, or something. Half the state is out of natural gas because of what is going on in Texas. Funny thing is that most of the natural gas that comes to New Mexico from Texas goes from New Mexico to Texas. I hope it is making some power for Texas, because there are a lot of people here freezing.

There is enough natural gas in this country to supply all the power plants and supply all the cooking and heating gas to the entire country for hundreds of years, and we are putting up with this third world crap.

I just delivered wood to my daughter’s in-laws who had no heat at all, and I expect to get a few calls from others. This could be a busy couple of days.

This is really bad news for NM as we are having natural gas issues because of the rolling brownouts in western TX.

Just in Albuquerque they’ve set up shelters for people without a way to heat their home and all the schools are closed in an effort to save utilities; the governor sent home non-critical state employees early and has asked them not to come in tomorrow. They requested everyone turn down their thermostats and turn off any unnecessary electrical items. With the record cold we’re having there are many people without a way to heat their homes in NM.

I realize a lot of folks have it worse, but this is really bad news for NM where a state of emergency has been declared. Plus all the TX folks w/o electricity. What a mess.

I’m fine, just fed up with ignorant remarks from people who ought to know better.
What a wimp. If you think you have it bad you should live in sunny California. We get "ignorant remarks from people who ought to know better" by the hour.

We have been chipping ice here for three days. I know about ice and snow but I use gas heat. Don’t cry.

We use gas heat too and it’s gas that’s the problem as a result of the electricity issues in TX. So not only is Mexico needing to rescind the offer to take care of their own, but TX and NM states that normally don’t get these issues are struggling badly.
