Whether to evac civilians, or to take one side or another, the instant that a US helicopter or aircraft enters Egypts airspace, then the US will be involved in a war in yet another Muslim country, one much bigger than Iraq and with US hardware and training.

I think Obama WANTS an incident that gives him an excuse to intervene in Egypt, and he WANTS the Muslim Brotherhood to win.

I was saying that “multiple platoons” isn’t that many Marines. A platoon is only 30-35 troops/NCO’s/one Officer. Their obviously going to provide only security for Americans in Egypt and particularly embassy/consulate staff. That is an historic mission of the Marine Corps.

The word "multiple" can mean any number from two to infinity.

The LA Times article reports that the Kearsarge, an amphib assault ship, carries 700-800 troops.
