Nothing has changed since 1980. Media always in the tank for the democrat and rino.
It was a simple question Reagan asked the American public: “Are you better off that you were Four Years Ago?” Rich or poor, black or white, democrat or republican, you could only answer that question one way - No.
Palin, or whoever wins the nomination needs to use the same strategy. Maybe reword the question a little, “Are you better off than you were four Trillion Dollars ago?” or “ Are you better off than you were two stimulus packages ago?”
I was thinking about this last night. Thank you for doing the research and posting it.
Actually you should have used the poll of Reagan down by 25 points to Carter, in I believe May of 1980.....it wasn’t Gallup but it was a major poll of that time
Knee deep KaKa alert!......
It was a lot more than that, though: Reagan also offered an alternative approach, which came to be known as "Reagonomics."
I don't know if you recall it, but also some time prior to Reagan's famous debate question, the RNC had begun running a series of amusing ads to prepare the ground for Reagan's economic message. And, of course, the bad old days of Carter's recession were in full cry: people were looking for an alternative answer -- people already knew things were bad.
And at the same time, Reagan also offered confident leadership in a Cold War that Carter seemed determined to lose. That, rather than economic issues, was a major factor in a lot of peoples' decision to back Reagan.
Sarah Palin is no Reagan. She can ask the "telling question," as indeed everybody can and does, too. But can she follow up? Has she offered a cogent alternative? Not yet.
Reagan turned around the poll numbers when he crushed Carter in the debates. The GOP debates will show if Palin is up to the task.
Yep, Reagan shouldn’t have run.
Correct. All the other issues could be finessed, but there was no dodging or equivocating the answer to that one question.
BTW it was that same question that won Reagan an even larger landslide in 84.
The woman hasn’t freaking even ran yet! Let her compete against everyone else with their ideals and plans for the country and see who is better instead of you and your buddies trashing her more than you trash Obama
She offered a more sensible thought on the Egypt crisis than a lot of the GOP potentials, if they have then show it.
Thanks for posting this...
Obama is far worse than Carter and Palin is certainly no Ronald Reagan.
Look, I love Palin as much as the next FReeper (well, the average FReeper), but she is no Reagan. Flame away, but Reagan was..........well, he was Reagan.
I am glad Reagan and the country didn’t listen to the RINO’s and party boys in 1980 and hope the country won’t listen to them again in 2012.
To hear them tell it anything other than one of their approved and appointed liberal puke candidates will get us beat just like in 1964.
If a real conservative gets the nomination watch them scatter like angry wasps just having had their nest of corruption and power hit with a full blast of Raid spray.
The larger issue is that Palin is not comparable to Reagan and the sooner Republicans learn that the better.
Thats a great line
